Good Grief This Thing Is Fast!

Post by FasterLouder »

My Nitro Rustler ran away from me at full throttle, after the crystal in thew rx vibrated loose...It hit a parked car's front tire head on and cartwheeled for a few metres, before landing on it's roof with the throttle screaming...So,I decided to make it a little more robust, stronger, faster and louder!
Lots of nice, shiny, blue alloy got installed... :D
And yes,the first thing I bought post carnage was a fail safe.

Just bolted the air cleaner and Resonator pipe on it and man, what a difference!
That sucker's breathing,now!
I have no means of calculating it's top speed, but it's doing at least 60MP/H!

If you really want to make it more durable and handle better than replace the shocks with the big bore pro shocks from Traxxas, and replace the bearing carriers with RPM ones. The RPM bearing carriers utilize a larger bearing so they don't wear out as fast.

Yes,yes,yas...The uprights will be replaced with blue alloy jobs, the RPM rear shock tower still flexes like nothing else,so an alloy rear tower is going on there and I have some Associated T4 shocks spare,so it should be even better!

Almost all the Traxxas...Er...Unpleasantness has been removed, leaving the good things-the motor and the EZ Start.
Rpm arms are up front,I'll put some on the rear, too.
I don't want to know how much it's cost me,but every time I drive it,I'm smiling like a fool!

Got the tune so on it's not even funny.
Everytime I run it up the street, all the kids and even some adults come out and geek out on it.

Thanks for the compliments,too,guys.
It's been a long, expensive but very worthwhile project.

Wait a minute. You just said all the unpleasantness was gone out of it. Then why is there still a trx 3.3 in it and ez start? you left in the biggest most unpleasantness of it.

:P :P :P :P

This truck's a basher, the EZ Start is just convinient, for me.
And the engine's still running hard...Not one problem, since I scored it.

I have a 1/8th scale OFNA for more serious nitro...expiditions.

I don't know what kind of fail safe you have, but if its one of them Duratrax ones I wouldn't trust. I friend of ours said his failsafe failed and his Ofna buggy took off full throttle. I had one and it didnt work.

The best thing to do is go to the hardware store and get a throttle return spring
Good thing Traxxas put a throttle return spring stock on the Jato or I would of had a $250+ car going 60+ mph down the street :?

All of my nitro's are Ofna except my nitro stampede (doesn't run, yeah I know shocker). I love the ofna buggies, they have to be some of the most durable vehicles ever made. I run ofna failsafes and they work great. One came with my titan and the other one was $15 and it's really small.

Pretty sure he had one of these on his buggy. He said he lost the signal and it took off down the road wide open and that he never trusted electronic failsafe since. I never trusted them either, I always liked the spring idea. And the springs are less that $1

The only problem with a spring is that if you have a high torque servo than the spring may not be strong enough to return it. Then you have to get a stronger spring but that puts more strain on the servo making it less powerful therefore defeating the purpose of the high torque servo. I have never had a problem with my failsafes. I always test everything before I start the engine. Turn the radio off and the failsafe should operate. If it didn't then I would figure it out before I ran. I have even turned my radio off while the car was at full speed at the beach. The failsafe kicked in and locked up the brakes, not a good idea as the car flipped a dozen times and snapped a lower arm holder.
