Need A Little Help From My Friends.

Post by FasterLouder »

My RC10 is finally looking almost complete.
Got my MIP SP-1 tranny rebuilt and found I had an NIP spur in stock that bolted right on.
Reedy Modified Green Dot motor in great condition in place.
Need to shed the modern Dean's connectors and the Kyosho endbell on the motor, but they're easily rectified.
A graphite tranny brace is needed, too.

I manged to score a set of front NIP chrome rims to match the rears I bought ages ago,so I'm over the moon about that.
I have some cool ProLine Viper front tires on the front, which I found NIP,but I'm having trouble finding suitable rear tires.
I got pointed to some correct for 1985 tires, but they look way too 'Tamiya Super Champ' for me!
I just need something a little lower profile and something that will complement the fronts.

Any suggestions?

The other issue I'm having is with the steering servo.
I managed to score a NIP Novak NES-1 servo and went about installing it.
The case of the servo where the mounting tabs are,are way more narrow than a modern servo,so I was only able to get one stock RC10 servo mount on the front of the servo.

Any suggestions on a clean way to get the rear servo mount on and bolted to the pan?

Thanks in advance for any help, guys!
Here are some photos to help explain...

Dang-One last thing!

The stock front body post is waaay to short and I had to shim it up,but it's still too short.
What's the deal with that?
Stock body posts and a stock body...Hmmmm.

The steering servo issue is because the Novak NES-1a is an earlier servo more appropriate to the 1/12 scale cars. The original RC10 timeframe is more in tune with the Futaba S32 as referenced in the manual. There are others such as the S31 and S28 that are appropriate, for that matter the modern S3001 fits perfectly.

The front body mount always is too low and has to be shimmed up but make sure your body is down as much as possible in the front by making sure the clearances around the nose tubes aren't rubbing and keeping it from sitting down.

Thanks for that!
I might drop the NES-1A into my RC12LS...Hmmm,maybe not.
Might have to part with it,if I can't use it in anything I have.

The manual may help sort things out, if you have this already then disregard.

Every one to there own preference but I just pointed out that the Novak servo was from 1978 era and the RC10 is 1984 at least the first one. To mount the servo you would have to drill a new hole for the servo mount, if that's not a problem then go for it.

why not try turning the servo mounts 90degrees to get better reach. May only be able to use the upper holes on the servo though.

Probably the most appropriate suggestion as that was the most frequent solution on the early RC12's :)

He he he,that was my first though, too.
I think I'll return that pristine servo to it's packet and drop the Futaba 132 that I had in it before.
I never realised that those NES-1a servos were that old!
CRIKEY!

Thanks for all the help and input, dudes.

from my knowledge the bantam servo was 1978-1982. the 1A was 1982 onwards and still being sold for many years after.

Fact is you're correct 1982 novak NES-1a was born. The catalog and brochire are in the scan section http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=7&t=6525
