Any truth to the description? Well, is Curtis legendary?! Someone else will have to answer that.
Was Gene one of the founders of Associated? Actually, Roger Curtis founded Associated and invited Gene to join it.
Was it purchased directly from Associated? I've been there just over 20 years and I've never seen one of our bodies in that color scheme. Possibly it was purchased from us as a clear body, though.
Painted by Curtis? I doubt it! He has been focused on the machining aspect more than racing, so he wouldn't be painting bodies, much less selling them.

Conclusion: That ad is complete hogwash. You may copy and paste this info to the poster of that ad with my permission. You may send this info to eBay with a charge of false advertising with my permission.

Why the black CE kit ? Box art shows white . I purchased a CE kit and to open it to see a black kit . Associated should have a least stated with a mark or something that it is a white kit or black kit. Pissed off!!

I think you are in this hobby for the wrong reasons. Anyhoo, I'm not Steve but I can answer this question. Towards the end of the line Associated started mixing and matching white for black parts untill eventually the entire kit was black molded parts. My first RC10 was a late Champ. edition with all black parts circa 95'.

I don't understand why there is this big deal with white parts. Personally I think they are ugly. Most of the time I dye my parts even the uber expensive ones I used on my RC10 RPM worlds buggy.

I could think of a heck of lot of other reasons to be pissed off. Pissed off at Associated? For a kit that is 10-15 years old? Just because you had expectations doesn't mean that it's Associated or Steve's fault. Just my 2 cents.

I suggest you send my reply to the person doing the auction, then forget it. Sort of like a cop leaving you with a warning and doing nothing further, expecting your conscience to take over from there.

Regarding moving to black parts. I'm sure Associated made a business decision to move to black parts because that's what the people were favoring at the time. Black was simply way cooler than white.

All my cars at the time got dyed black--I was cool, and always looked cleaner than white--white cars were always run by the "novice" class

And Dog forbid you break a part on race day and had to run a white replacement part.

Steve,
Received my RC300 & RC500 Book today and found some beautiful pictures inside. I really liked your dedication in the back of the book to the Guys & Gals at RC10talk.com. Thanks Steve we really appreciate your being a part of this forum and bringing just a little bit of Gene along with you, makes this place special.

No, all naked chassis, suspension and motor pictures of RC300's and RC500 2wd and 4wd versions. I'm more of a nuts and bolts kind of guy so I'm happy but I would brake for a nicely painted and clothed 1/8 scale car any day of the week. I was pleasantly surprised by his dedication to the members here at RC10talk.com.
The Gene Husting videos are pretty cool with all the background information and video of a lot of the big races, many photos of the painted bodies and cars of the day. A pity Gene closed his site before I was just getting into the 1/8 cars but c'est la vie. I found a number of the early videos at Slotcarrod's hobby shop site http://www.pmhobbycraft.ca/store/category/3/17/Books%2C-Videos-%26-Magazines/ only problem was the cost of the shipping which was ridiculous but necessary if I wanted to buy the videos (this was not Rod's fault). I don't know if they are available anywhere else, kind of wonder what Gene did with all the leftover videos when he closed his website (sure hope they didn't go to a landfill somewhere). Hope this helps.
