I'd have used triangles.
The problem is no not bending of the long beam but tording: the beam is flat and narrow.
As you push up the front left: the narrow flat a long crossing beam; from the front right to left rear will twist along its centerline.

I think the car is done for now, but I still have a few items to clean up/fabricate
countersink holes on chassis
fr/rr bumpers
couple of hinge pins
wing mounts
trim XX body
battery stays
couple of threaded standoffs to replace through hole ones
As it is, it will roll on it's own, and with electronics, completely driveable, so here are some pics!
