There were a lot of "straight graphite" chassis back then. The original JRX2 comes to mind as a good example. Is that edge photo showing a sandwich of another material between layers of graphite? There was one company that sold a lot of chassis like that, maybe DA, with a wood core...??

I have done old Novaks and Tekins before, and one tip is to ream the hole for the wire once you have removed the old wire.
