Re: Technology "Firsts" in the RC industry (with pictures)
Great thread idea! I gotta add this....my favorite.....the original Composite Craft Lynx. Winner of the very first 1/10th scale On-Road Nationals in 1987...and then again in 1988 with Bob "Bullet" Light behind the wheel both times.

Re: Technology "Firsts" in the RC industry (with pictures)
Ball differential technology: ... I'm unsure which RC car was the first to offer this technology. This was pretty revolutionary at the time I imagine. Nice posts by the way! Cecil Schumacher invented the ball diff to replace the fixed axle in his son Robin's Mardave 1/12 car. He sold the ball diffe...

Re: Rc10t style one piece carbon fiber build
FE6B90FB-EB32-4B9F-8B80-6E2DEF8CED52.jpeg So far so good. I put release on the mold and was and added the bottom 2 layer of carbon fiber. I ran out of the cosmetic carbon fiber so the tracers are visible. The 2 layers together are between .5 and .6 mm depending on where I measure. It looks like I h...

Re: RC10 A+ Buggy Project
I figured out what I wanted to do with the nose tubes. Attaching them to my steering servo mount ended up being a simple solution. I also built up and installed a set of CVD axles. All that's left is to install the electrics and go driving. . PXL_20220704_021440309.jpg . PXL_20220704_021600351~2.jpg

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
as long as the crappy car stayed together, they would be reasonable competitive. Track time and experience really goes a long way. One time, back in the ol days, I won an outdated Losi "Junior" buggy in a raffle at a local So Cal series race and decided to race it, bushings and all until I...

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
A Grasshopper or Frog might be extreme.
But say a RC10 Worlds car (1993) against modern buggies. Given modern tires, I do believe a pro driver could win.

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
When the rerelease world's car came out, some of the factory guys were building them and running them and running against the b4.x and b5 buggies and were doing a little too well with them. I believe it was discouraged for them to keep running them. Great drivers will make anything run better but it...

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
The motors and batteries would need to be equivalent. Otherwise there's just too much handicap to overcome.
I saw a video recently that was something like this, a skilled driver with a lesser buggy racing with better buggies. I thought I'd seen it on this site, but not sure now.

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
So, I've always had this youtube idea to give a pro driver an outdated or "crappy" engineered car and see just how they would fare around a race track. Part of the test is to see their driving skills and their mechanical ability to improve an outdated design on a race track. Kind of like ...

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
I think something like this should be done Top Gear STIG style get yourself a track and have the 'anonymous pro driver' run the 'crappy' or 'classic' car back to back with his modern race machine after giving him half hour to do as much tuning as he can to the outclassed platform and then run it as ...

Re: Give a pro driver a crappy car experiment
I always dreamed since first getting into the hobby about what factory drivers could potentially come up with given all their experience and resources if they were all handed a bone stock Grasshopper, FX10, Frog or some other base level model to see what they would come up with. Obvious rules, eg re...

Re: RC10 Worlds Car rerelease collectibility (rapid rise)
I bought a Worlds ReRe kit on ebay in 2020. It was partially built not new in box so I did not pay too much of a premium over MSPR. But I was very unimpressed with the quality. It had the messed up top shaft, and I think something else was goofed up too that I can't recall at the moment. Over all it...

Re: Heresy ?
Lil bit more , made a start on the rear , right now it's locked solid at the rear as I still have the original rear suspension mounts in place , the wheel base was shortened by about 15mm by the front arms so my next trailing arms will be 15mm longer to get it back to the right length , it's hard to...

Re: Tamiya New Beetle FF01 front wheel drive fun
I'm currently rebuilding an FF01 as well. Mine started as a Mondeo, which then had a Volvo 850 body added.... FF04.jpg I'm almost complete with my rebuild of the chassis, including adding bearings and my last bag of NIP FF01 arms... and then I will drop a new VW Golf body on the chassis, with some n...
