Re: Turbo Optima mid SE
After a lot of trial and error I have settled on the finish for these parts. Way more time than I expected. The larger motor plate was the test bed for the anodization. It was in the worst condition of all the pieces. Almost all articles on ano of Duralumin and it's closest cousin 2024 stated, the f...

Re: Picture of the day. (Taken by you)
My entry for COTM ( Cat of the Month )
Could not pass up a photo op for our 8 year old Oriental Shorthair.
She is very sensitive so no comments about her big e--s, and no not eyes.

Re: The Official "What is it?" Thread
Pretty sure it's a Futaba FX10.
Pogo stick shocks, body, front tires/wheels and chassis with "side scoop" are all hallmarks.

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE
First crack at test fitting parts and building a sub assembly. All went good. On some of the plastic parts I needed to tap a few threads into the plastic because the new hardware is machine thread not self-tapping screws. The aluminum pieces, when installed, IMHO look awesome. Way better looking tha...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE
The only real "test of durability" I have done is in final color matching. After the final sealing with Nickel Acetate, I used some Turtle wax rubbing compound to slightly lighten darker anodized parts. The compound does remove some ano and dye as was evident on the soft white cotton rag u...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE
So I had this servo arm from a previous build and decided to try and sand and polish only portions of it. Had no idea if the anodizing of the electric blue would effect the existing black anodizing but thought I'd give it a try. A very small part that really won't be seen but well worth the effort t...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2
Been awhile Recently got a Carbon fiber RC10 LiPo battery holder. The aluminum spacers that came with it were raw aluminum. Even polished they didn't look right, so anodize them... The spacers are small and cylindrical so they are relatively easy to bring up to a mirror finish. It did take four or f...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2
It took 3 more attempts, but I got it! Anodized to .8 mil and 25 minutes in the dye bath. Almost perfect match to the 91668 RC10B6 FT Aluminum Steering Bellcranks. The "test'' cube above was anodized to 1mil and 30 minutes of dye bath. The curiosity is when the same Electric Blue dye is used at...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2
Got too focused on anodizing and just realized never gave any updated body pics. Pics were taken before anodizing was started. I had sprayed the Tamiya PS31 tint and removed the protective film. Still have a few items to work on and a few parts on their way. But it's getting a lot closer to being do...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2
A bit out of sequence but... The battery hold down is actually made to place a shorty lipo in a vintage RC10. With the layback trans and waterfall, placement was a bit different. Some trimming on the carbon fiber was also necessary for clearance. The LCG battery is not quite so long as some others s...

Re: Mid-motor B1, B4, B6 V2
For anyone curious... A Mouser heatsink with very thin adhesive graphite thermal pad was added to the top of the Reedy 800z ESC. I'm not sure that it needed it but the OEM flat aluminum just didn't look adequate. The "retention clip" was bent from the spine of an old windshield wiper blade...

Re: Losi XX Kinwald build
I really like the build! But I do kinda disagree. I think your choice of the body is spot on. The blue goes well with the anodized bling and springs, the yellow goes nicely with the wheels. Wheel disks... maybe. Be interesting to maybe see them in the blue color of the body??? Other than that, an ot...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE
Decided to test fit and trim the belt covers. Probably will use 3M double stick to hold the covers and just a couple screws. Some basic assembly of the chassis is required and I wanted to see a few of the other parts assembled. A couple screw holes need a little drop of CA to "tighten" the...

Re: Turbo Optima mid SE
A little better close up of my mod to seal the upper belt cover. The original piece's Kyosho part# is apparently OT-103. Also recessing the screw under the upper belt cover so the belt cover can be flush to the upper deck. I left a small portion of the metal in the rubber part to maybe get it to sea...
