Re: Battle scarred TomCAT

Here are my Brimods in bits, I think those shocks on the box are Brimod but made for Schumacher maybe as prototypes? The main seal on the Brimod is the same as very early SWB dampers and the arangement is very similar, I think there must have been some copying, if it was authorised or not is another...

Re: Battle scarred TomCAT

As you say Paul I think they are Brimod shocks, I have a used set somewhere which I must dig out, I wanted to bid on the set that sold last year(I think) but the price was enormous. Brinod shocks were made near to me in the West Midlands UK.

Re: Battle scarred TomCAT

Well the body is very "interesting"!!!! the rest of the car looks good though, the PK chassis looks like a candidate for re anodizing to me. well done.

Re: CAT XL new build from parts

OK, I have made some adjustments and updated the photos as I was building parts of the car to the early SWB manual by mistake, the front upper arms are now reversed and the rear lower arm blocks now give the arm an angle + i've fitted the rear shocks and bracket.

Re: CAT XL new build from parts

I've just noticed that every other early CAT build I can find has the front upper arms the other way around but i'm sure I have built this to the manual.

Re: CAT XL new build from parts

I have a new grey bumper for the SWB too but they are different, the other one has square edges and not beveled like the one on the XL, I have seen both types on cars but I did wonder which was earlier? The one on the XL looks like it was machined wheras the one in these pics looks to have been cut ...

Re: CAT XL new build from parts

Thanks for the comments everybody, these cars are a real challenge to find parts for and to build as they don't fit together very well, I can't imagine what people would say if they saw the line "debur the circlip groove" on a manual these days! As David says the front is just a pulley wit...

CAT XL new build from parts

I have been collecting these parts for years now and finally have made a start on building the car. I can't believe some of the differences with the XLS.

Happy new year to all

Cheers

Re: Vintage CAT XLS for the race track.

Very nice indeed, I like the mods you have done and as you say they are all of the period when they were raced, I remember racing with 1700 SCE cells which were great until they failed, I bet young people these days can't comprehend the small capacity figures!

Good luck racing.

What a great project car , I look forward to following it. Simple touches will make all the difference to a car like this.
