Thats actually thread lock -the instructions require the use of it in order to completely seal the drive train, I guess I slightly overdid it...

Long term Optima Mid restoration

just finished a long term Optima Mid project. I received some used Mid parts in a local lot find (enough to complete about 70% of the car) five years ago and was determined to keep this project on low budget, hence the long time it took me to complete. At some point the only parts missing were the r...

Re: RichieRich's Ultima builds

Very nice! I never gave the Outrage body a second look before, but it looks super cool on your ride! Can you mount it using the original Ultima body mounts? I ran my Ultima II at the local track recently and noticed how stable it was during jumps vs. my hopped up swb vintage racer Ultima, so I decid...

Re: Ultima II basher

Yes, up front I used Triumph wheels. I had to use Triumph front axles as well since the wheels are narrower at the bearings. I only have stick packs so this is what I use. I don't think saddle packs will have much advantage anyway, the way the battery layout was designed on this chassis means that w...

Re: My Ultima pics and some RC10s from the local vintage meeting

have a look at this thread: http://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=30&t=2660.
I've made some changes to the car since, but there are some good pics of chassis.

Ultima II basher

OK, long time no post. I've been very busy with crawlers but also worked on several vintage projects in parallel which means a lot of time passes without any actual project ending! Finally finished this one though. Got this Ultima II for $20 off ebay about 6 months ago, Judging by the front shock to...

Re: Triumph gearbox belt

Diggley, it looks like you have the wider (6mm) belt. I had a look at my belt and some of the writing is different to yours, mine has the following: 12 084 MG5204 L1K

Re: Triumph gearbox belt

Just one narrow belt will work fine in the car. My brother frequently ran his like this with an 11 Double motor (pre brushless days) and it was fine for the whole year. As mentioned above make sure you have a bit of slip from the slipper and everything will be ok :) Thanks, I'll run the car with th...

Re: Triumph gearbox belt

I must admit I'm not familiar with belt standardization, how can you tell this belt has the same tooth profile?

Re: Triumph gearbox belt

Yes I do, I received the gearbox with a single narrow belt (not enough to run it safely I assume). I can take it apart, count the tooth number and quote the writing on it (although I believe it has the same pitch and tooth profile as the Lazer belt). Do you have access to a belt supplier?

Re: Triumph gearbox belt

I actually contacted that seller to ask if he'll stock triumph belts, haven't got a response yet...
I know a place who sells a triumph belt but from past experience it takes several weeks for them to process the order, plus the price is rather steep.

Re: Triumph gearbox belt

It's actually the opposite...the single thick belt came first. Kyosho then went with the 2 narrow belts. I just had a look at the October 91 issue of RCCA were they featured a Triumph track report. According to the article the two narrow belts (4mm each) were originally available but it was found t...

Triumph gearbox belt

Just got a Triumph gearbox for my Ultima vintage racer, its in good overall condition but unfortunately missing its belt. Anyone knows if the Lazer rear belt (LA-12) would fit Triumph gearbox? I remember reading some time ago that earlier Triumphs came with two narrow Lazer belts but later in the pr...

Re: My Ultima pics and some RC10s from the local vintage meeting

Hey Snake, great to see you hopping by again! The new body looks pretty; for a moment I thought you had a box-art optima body on it. Thanks ED, I've been pretty busy lately and didn't get much time working on my vintage stuff (suffice to say that it took me about 6 months to get this body painted)....
