Re: Optima is back!!

Well I actually drove mine today. :D :D Used the belt drive and this thing is super quiet. No pictures yet as I haven't actually done the body yet and just used some other wheels I had here as I haven't put the kit ones together yet. FIrst thing. If you are wondering what motor to get I'll say a 17....

Re: Optima is back!!

I will say though, that this thing will wheelie like no other car I own. Probably due to the short wheelbase and 9T motor. Haha yeah I bet. I put a 3500kv (close to 12T) brushless in my original Optima and it wheelies like crazy. Very controllable overall but silly if you want it to be. Have fun an...

Re: Optima is back!!

Finally mine arrived this morning. :D I'll be starting assembly next week. (running the Blue Ridge Half Marathon tomorrow and have a Losi 8ight to finish building first) So far it looks like this is how it will be setup. Speed Passion Reventon Stock ESC and 17.5 sensored brushless motor. Savox 1258T...

Re: Optima is back!!

I just checked my order on Amain and the in stock date has slipped from March 31 to April 15th. Frustrating but I guess I'll live through it.

Re: Kopropo CX-IIR

Dan you are a wealth of information. Thank you very much. :D Today's exercise was done on a bench using a Futaba 3PL transmitter. No car was actually invlolved. When it's actually installed in the car I'll be using either a Futaba Magnum Sport or a Kyosho Pulsar 2000 Pro radio. And thank you for the...

Kopropo CX-IIR

Well I've had this sitting around for a couple of months and finally had some time to try and get it operational. Lets just say it works. Oddly enough I can get it to run smoothly in one direction but full throttle only in the other direction. Some of that may have to do with my transmitter but it s...

Re: Optima is back!!

Is it ready yet? How about now? Now? Is it ready now? I'm getting impatient. Now is it ready?? I'm right there with you. Ordered on Feb 8th. Been patiently waiting. That didn't work out so well. I got so impatient I acquired a Losi 8ight 2.0 with a Tekno conversion to play with to keep from going s...

Re: Turbo Optima Mid SE Battery Question

I'll add a little clarity to the C rating thing and how it is applied if I can. For example a 4000mAh battery discharging at 1C will take an hour to discharge. 60 / 1 = 60 minutes The same battery discharging at 30C would take 2 minutes. 60 / 30 = 2. So 4000mAh (4 Ah) x 30(C) = 120 Amps current draw...

Re: advice on using old electronics

A little late but here are some thouoghts. A modern Lipo balance charger charging at 1C (Ex. 4000mAh battery charge at 4 amps) is IMO completely safe. Mine never even get warm on their way to a full charge if they weren't warm from running when started. It takes betweeen 25-40 minutes to charge depe...

Re: Help identifying old motors.

Thanks for the quick response Stumpy.

Guess I'll look into rebuilding a couple of these.

Is there any way to update the stock motors with bearings? Just a thought.

Help identifying old motors.

So over the last couple months I've accumulated some motors amongst the various other stuff I've collected. I'm currently getting 2 Optima mids back into operational status (one will be going tonight) and an Ultima II so I'd like to figure out what I'm working with motor wise. Here's a shot of the l...

Re: Optima is back!!

Fwiw, I've been running a 13.5 brushless on my vintage chain drive with hardened final pinion. I haven't run into any problems yet but I've only run a few packs up and down the road. As always , YRMV. I could just be lucky. Nah...the original Optima had a pretty tough drivetrain, if you upgraded th...

Re: New guy 1985 Optima rebuild Thread.

Odd that the Coors sticker is the Arizona state flag design. Well not really when you consider the guy I got it from bought it as a kid when he lived in Arizona. He now has a basically unused RC10 from the late 80's. Radio still in the box. Built but new. Nice. I told him to keep that one just like...

Optimas.

Well I was just sitting here thinking about all the things that have happened in the last month or so due to undertaking this project and thought I would share some of other things that have happened solely due to this rebuild. I now have 3 Optimas (and a re-re preorder :D ) due to the fact that whi...
