In 1985 the Buffalo became the third buggy to be released by AYK. Evolving from the Sidewinder (itself an evolution of the Super Trail) the Buffalo continued AYK's mission to create a lightweight racing buggy. Still built on a square tube aluminum ladder frame the fiberglass upper chassis deck that replaced the plastic battery box on the Sidewinder was significantly shortened. The transmission was redesigned to place the motor transversely in the chassis behind the transmission. And gone was the trailing arm front suspension, replaced by a double wishbone arrangement with a sway bar and an oil filled aluminum mono-shock. The Sidewinders trailing arm style rear suspension remained with a sway bar and revised shock mounting locations. Preassembled, the Buffalo came equipped with a Magnum 600 motor and mechanical speed controller:

I had one of these and it was not well designed. I never ran it, sold it on.

You know it's ready to run when the tires come mounted! Though, kinda puts a dent in the modern RTR vs. Kit argument...

Praised by editors, panned by racers.
