Xacto nicks and cuts

Post by Frankentruck »

Does anyone use any sort ot hand protection for preventing nicks and cuts when working with xacto blades? When I'm cleaning up 3D prints, trimming bodies, cutting injection molding nubs, etc I usually end up doing something with a blade that slips and makes a pesky little cut. I've considered using thimbles, but I'm curious if there's something someone else uses and isn't too bulky.

I was building a 1/24 General Lee way back when and had placed an Xacto in a convenient location. I brought my right arm over the workspace, the tip caught my forearm and the whole thing kinda levered/stood up as it went in. Said, "what the..", held up my arm and there it was dangling from my forearm. All muscle, not much blood, no stitches. Got lucky. BE CAREFUL!
Hope you're doin' something fun.

My Super Clod build has left me with a few flesh wounds, but I'll survive long enough to finish it.

I had an x-acto knife (Jconcepts handle) roll off the end of my table and land upright into the top of my bare foot. The weight of the handle meant the entire length of the blade went into my foot. I stared at it for a second because I couldn't believe it had just happened.

I've got to wear cut resistant gloves for work...they suck...any chance you're an extra large glove :P ...might just lose a pair so I can go back to my mechanics for the day!

 this happened to me with one of the large size xactos. Rolled off the desk and stuck in my leg. Weirdest part was that it never even hurt, but I still have the scar. Ruined my pants too!

My glove size seems to vary based on who makes the gloves.

I ordered a set of the finger tip covers. They will be interesting to try.

Insert the cat walking in shoes video here  .

Work just upped the cut resistance on our gloves so a bunch of gloves will be following people home. Gonna wait til they re-introduce chain mail gloves before getting too uppity though
