Additional pics of chassis, recycled Tamiya Wild One front shock towers (headlamp mounts), RC10 wing mount buttons (I think), restored & buffed motor guard & NOS Kyosho motor.

The headlamps are leftovers from the Proline driving lights I added to the B2 Baja project.

No additional drill holes were made...anywhere.

Swapped out the trans today, the Triumph tranny fit fit like a glove.

The only problem I could see is that the gear cover will not clear the rear sway bar.

That won't be a problem, I ran my other Ultima (with a Triumph trans) without a gear cover for years, and only swapped out a spur gear or two. It was converted to a standard pitch (cheap) gear years ago. Dirt doesn't seem to bother this trans too much anyhow when compared to the Ultima's set up.

Seeing how this project won't get abused, I'm not worried.

This one is still metric 48 pitch for now.

Even the Ultima's rear motor guard appears to fit.

I'm using the motor protection on my A&L transmission also: dirlled a hole in the motoerplate to attach it on one side and a tie-rod through the left upper hole of the bulkhead holds the other side. The triumph transmissons uppermount looks easier to secure with those 2 upper holes

I got lucky on the motor cage, it was beat pretty bad when I got it. I actually think the Ultima version looks way better than the stock Triumph. It has a racier look than the Triumph's solid guard.

it's amazing that the parts fit so perfectly, it's almost like Kyosho intended it fot the Ultima series in the first place, but later thought a (more fragile & complicated in my opinion) completely different design would be the way to go. If they would have stuck it out with the Ultima chassis/Triumph trans combo they surely would have spanked Associated back in the day. I always thought Kyosho's suspension & steering geometry was a little better than most.

I've got a few hours invested in just the bumper alone between the straightenting and polishing.

I finally found the motor guard support after months of searching...

Yay!

New Buggy Champ tires arrived today fresh from Japan.

Installed 'em on NOS 3 part Proline/CRP black wheels.

I haven't decided on the outer wheel halves yet..those new Paragu 5 spoke one piece wheels on E-Bay are looking mighty tempting now...

I'd like to find the classic Centerline style though, but if I can't, I may move the project into a whole new direction...

The bumper may be swapped out soon for something a little more scale. The Losi Desert Runner worked great on my other project, I may do something similar on this.

I think I'll lose the CRP front bumper for sure.

RPM's got a sweet set up (w/lights!) for the Slash that might find its way on board.

I forgot what a pain in the a$$ mounting old school 3 part wheels were .

About 30 minutes on the fronts alone... all those screws...and setting & re-aligning each halve...(Arghh...my thumbs!)

Still looking for direction in the paint dept...the black does have kind of a industrial look about it...It's not very photogenic though.

I saw a sweet looking vw on here a while back and haven't been able to take my mind off of it. You vw stall looks good- are their builds all on treads here? Great job and very creative!

Thanks!

I'm trying to build something that's not the same as the others that I've seen. The "wide eye" headlamp look is a little more popular on the real thing.

I highly recommend the maker of these wheels, they're awesome!

I've got a few more tricks in mind for this one.

Bumper & driving lamps are next...

I have a paint idea...

Hint: it's in the background.

Yes? No?

I might be leaning towards a twins theme.

Mocking up & fitting new bumper & driving lights today..still haven't found correct body color yet....I think the chrome brings it out a little more, & it matches the polished rear motor guard.

Time to hit the local Radio Shack for a set of LED's.
