Battery Charge Rates
I just updated my charger with one capable of charging LIPO's and charging Ni-Mh's at up to 5 amps.
I've been charging all my Ni-Mh's at 5 amps-they include GP4300,GP3800 and an IB3800.
Since I've started charging these batteries, both the GP's have died on me.
Is charging these packs at 5 amps killing them?
Is there some sort of guideline for how many amps to charge a battery relating to it's mah rating?
Any help would be much appreciated.
I love this site.

Re: Battery Charge Rates
I regularly charge my GP3300's @ 6 amps. ALL my IB4200's took a crap on me, and are now in the recycle bin. I charge my IB3800's @ 6 amps also.
When you say took a crap...what did they do, just die? Overheat and burn up? My GPs have been the most durable batteries I have had. I saved a couple sets for my boy and his slash, I will run only Lipo now...

Re: Battery Charge Rates
No,they didn't go out with a bang, they just lost their punch and and would only charge up to 1500mah or so.
They've been cycled a good few times, though,it's quite possible that my new, grunty charger tipped them over the edge.
I'm goin' LIPO,soon.
Talked to the tech at Castle, asked him what I should use with my 5700 Mamba Max in the XX-4 and he said go for a 5000mah LIPO,with a 25C (100 amp) rating.
With my IB3800,on acceleration,it stutters-the battery can't keep up with the power draw.
Reckon I could run a LIPO of smaller capacity with the Mamba and get away with it?

Re: Battery Charge Rates
capacity is run time, you need the amp draw. the bigger lipos have better burst rate (just due to size)....
General rule: Mah/1000*C rating=burst rate/amps
5000/1000*20(C)=100 amps
so a smaller capacity battery will need a big C rating...

if ur bashin around and not racing, you may want to look into the a123 nano's from maxamps 3s config 9.9 is pretty sweet and ya can abuse those things to no end and they charge in about 15 minutes
