100%

I don’t need nor do I desire my car to
-be built with two dozen chinese body control modules that allows the car to further:
-drive itself
-stop itself
-open the doors by cell phone
-start the engine by cell app
-back itself in or out of a parking spot
-have subscription services whatsoever
-software subscriptions for hardware
-receive software updates of any kind
-take 1 hour to fully refuel

This list can go on.

So what do I want? I want what is reliable. Tactile switches. Fuses and relays. Thick wire. Port injection while we are at it. I can’t stand DI.

What is not reliable? PCM commands sent down a 28 gauge 4 strand wire. It’s simple for an engineer. Most people have no clue what I’m talking about though. That poor little wire carrying so many commands.. bouncing up and down up and down..

Yeah, paying a fee/subscription to unlock or retain features on a vehicle you have already purchased seems a bit f***ed. But I guess, unless you buy it outright, a "car payment" is basically a subscription. It is all planned out by the overlords though. Cash for "clunkers", parts availability for older vehicles, etc., etc. You will own nothing and like it. AI will scour the internet and your digital currency will be frozen because they discovered that you complained about it in the "things that irritate you" thread on RC10Talk. Buckle up.
Hope you're doin' something fun.

As it pertains to vehicles, the newest one I've ever owned was a 93 Chevy C1500. I have access to brand new cars to drive but for me personally, I'm not interested in owning anything made in the last two decades or so.

I still drive a 1997 escort haha

Sure it’s not really an escort anymore. She has a 7200 redline now and will lift a rear tire in hard turns, but there’s nothing I want more to daily drive except a 911 GT3 RS. Unfortunately I’m not that wealthy

I didn't even know they made an Escort wagon in 97. :) That's pretty cool. My vehicle now is an 87 El Camino SS. After I sold my custom 93 C1500, I wasn't looking for anything in particular. It just had to be old and tickle my fancy. I ended up going to look at various cars over a few years before I came across the El Camino. I'm not necessarily a big fan of them but the customizations it had and rarity piqued my interest. It was the last year El Caminos were made, it was a real deal Z15 code Super Sport, and was highly optioned including having the deluxe interior, and F41 sport handling package. It's estimated that only 861 Super Sports were produced for the final year but no one really knows as I believe all the fifth gen El Camino production records were lost/destroyed. If anything, I bought it as an investment. I'm glad I did as it's now doubled in price from what I paid.

Ironically, It's been sitting up on jack stands in the garage for the last 7 years due to wanting to install a technological advancement in the way of a Intellitronix digital dash. I pulled the instrument cluster apart, and never finished the job. Now the entire fuel system has to be gone through as a result from sitting so long. :?

I have a car like that. It sat 12 years I just got it running this last fall. It was my dads best friends car. He offered it to his kids (not running) when he developed cancer and none of them took it. John got a hold of my mom and I trucked the car from his garage into mine in April 2020. I left him an envelope of cash in his garage he wasn’t happy about but I said if he tried to give it back I’d sell the car.

I dropped the tank, drained, and cleaned it, new strainer, filter, pump, lines, sent injectors to RC injector service, new complete OE ignition system..after the service the injectors stayed wide open. I did some research, back probing injectors with my oscilloscope and verified there was no pulse width modulation. The injectors were wide open. Little more research and I pulled the trigger. Bought a reman ECU. She fired right up. The smog guy handed me my pass and said it’s the cleanest running 80s car he’s ever tested.

Its number 447 built. Too bad it isn’t 444 or 944. But it’s one of the first 500, I have 6 inches of receipts, photos from the German auto show in 1982. A service member bought the display car and had it shipped to port in Alabama. It also has a ZZZ VIN under the hood (destined for European delivery) but in the window the vin starts WPOAA and it’s here in America. Porsche made this happen and I wish I knew the complete story. But I do know the majority of it.

02/82 build date titled as 83 (first available year in USA). 78,000 miles. 5speed. Best color. Factory optioned 911 wheels. I didn’t always like 944’s; but, I’ve developed a love for this one. So I drive it. It even lives in the garage.

Jebus Christmas!!!! Apparently I've been hanging out here too much and have rubbed off on you guys!

When I'm not complaining about drivers and stupid people in general, it's the over use and abuse of electronics and low quality of everything, from products to services to restaurants. The latest thing, I just watched this vid, in my opinion, this is the result of ONE arsewipe who created a "fix" to a problem that didn't exist and has been petitioning the government ever since to implement safety standards based on THEIR patents and technology, i.e., they're trying to monopolize and profit from a nonexistent problem.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kb6LRfGhr_g

This is just one more step trying to legislate Darwinism out of society, which just simply can't be done! No technology can take into account the ingenuity of stupid people, yet, as always, EVERYTHING must be dumbed down to protect the absolute lowest common denominator.

This isn't me ranting just because I don't agree with something, this is an issue that is pervasive in today's society, nobody is responsible for their own actions, so it's up to the government to mandate insane safety protocols that actually make products less safe and much less useful. Those new fangled gas can spouts would be another example of a "fixed" problem that never existed.

To be clear, do I think this technology is a good thing, yes. Do I think the Sawstop brand is a good saw, yes. But, it should be up to the consumer to choose what they want to buy, not be forced to buy unnecessary technology just because other people are stupid or some company comes up with a fix to a problem that doesn't exist. What Sawstop is selling is fear, what they're petitioning the government with is fear, and they want to control the populace with fear! The most important safety device is LITERALLY between your ears! There are no amount of features that can be put on any product known to man that is more important.

There are far more automobile related injuries and deaths per capita than there are tablesaw injuries, and vehicles have evolved to become so "safe" that they have become part of the very problem that they were mandated to fix, which is that stupid people are incapable of operating vehicles. The point here is, it is the end user that is the problem, NOT the equipment. Yes, manufacturers need to be held to certain safety standards, but there is a point at which the responsibility becomes that of the end user. It's time to stop the fear mongering and corporate greed.

While I agree with you, the flip side is also a problem. I go on vacation to relax, get away from things, enjoy myself, which means sleeping in, lazy mornings, laid back days. Sure, let's go do something, but there is no rush to get there or do that thing, most of the time. My last girlfriend couldn't sit still, we'd get away for the weekend and she'd be up banging around at 6am and want to be out, then we'd spend the day bored, mostly, because there was no reason to be up and out that early. Went camping with friends. Camping to me is driving into the wilderness until my truck won't go any further, drop the tailgate, set camp, start a campfire, and relax in front of the fire until it's time to go home. I'm there for the peace and quiet, maybe frolic in the nearby stream/river, I'm not there to go on a death march, i.e. multiple mile hike, like my friends were. Hey, if that's your thing, don't let me stop you, I'll be here enjoying my beer when you get back.

It is interesting to compare old cars and new. In the 50s, luxury was defined by quality of materials and craftmanship. For the past 40 years or so, luxury has been defined by the number of gizmos.

As to your point about fixing non-existent problems, I agree totally. I know people love their key fobs, but there is a lot going on there just so I can unlock my car from 90 feet away. I drove my old truck to work today. I had to walk all the way to the truck (which I was doing anyway) to unlock it. Nobody died. I got to work on time. I didn't sprain my wrist turning the key.

EXACTLY!!! Instead of making useful features that don't require the latest Iphone and 1200 apps updated daily to operate, how about sun visors that ACTUALLY BLOCK THE SUN!?!?!?! Can't use a cellphone while driving, but let's put a 30" infotainment screen in the middle of the dash and remove all dedicated knobs and buttons, 'cuz, you know, it's safer.

I want cars that monitor the condition of the battery and tell me it will need replacement before it leaves me stranded.
