You mean like setting them on fire, as a prank? Yeah, no sense of humour... after all, it's just a prank.
Sometimes you just gotta set people on fire to keep warm. It is winter after all!

Oh, come on, maybe just a little bit, you know, see how it goes? I hear that those that need to be set on fire the most usually have the most BTUs to 'em.

My ISP decided this weekend that my 4 port modem that's been in use for the last 1.5 years on their network and was chosen because it was compatible with their network now is no longer good enough to be on their network and deregistered it from my account. But after troubleshooting and refusing to reregister it they provided me a free replacement loaner 1 port modem that pulls data at 66% of the speed that my modem did. So this is progress? But this replacement modem they remotely have full control of, so hey that's a great thing that I really wanted?

I'm supposed to have high speed data on my phone, apparently "high speed" to T-mobile means pushing boulders uphill, in the snow, with a headwind. Internet and media services in this country absolutely suck!

Been going back and forth with Shapeways on a part for 2 weeks and all I can say is if I still had hair on top of my head I'd have pulled it out by now. The tech failed the part because they were afraid that the parts would break off of the sprue and get lost. No big deal, I increase the surface area that holds onto the parts by reorienting them. They come back to me again, sprue is still "too thin" because they reviewed the wrong model.

We're good right? No! The design is fine but now customer support claims I've increased the volume by 10% and that the price would need to change and those whom have ordered the part would need to redo their orders. They can't take the price change out of my rather small markup. They also don't tell me what the new price is. All the while i see that the part in my shop but I don't think it's price has changed and in an attempt to fix the price so the customers don't have to pay more I re import the old model just to see what the original price was....It's exactly the same. Furthermore the volume was a measly 0.02cm^3 different a far cry from the claimed "10% volume increase". So A week so far wasted over 0.02cm^3 of PA12 plastic and a price change that doesn't exist.
Consistency is the key I keep misplacing.

just wait till you order two identical parts and one has holes that are blown out 20% and the other is perfect- and they tell you its within tolerance and the reason the holes are too large is because you had a part treed to it. Again, the other one was fine. Absolutely cant stand SW

Yeah I think after this I'm going to figure out something else to use. I originally just used them so i wouldn't have to deal with orders and shipping and it's the same material as the parts used in the NRC kits, but If I have to spend this much time just getting them to print the part it's not really worth it.

I am not mentioning names or relationships, but people who want a full road trip day of activities, including scenic driving, nice lunch, visiting a couple of interesting places, hitting up a couple of antiques stores, etc etc .................................... but also want to sleep until 10:30, and be home by 3:30.
I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

I despise modern technology. It’s all planned to fail. TVs, Phones, Refrigerators, Dryers, Washers, 1 of the 27 computers in a car made in China, I’ve had it.

I was born in 84. We had the same tube tv from 1990- 2005. My mom still has a Kenmore 80 series washer and dryer. When my grandma passed in 2010 her fridge was from 1975.

It’s so deep rooted and convoluted now. But consumerism is slavery. A way for big business to constantly steal your labor through planned obsolescence.

Good morning RCers

Adjusted for inflation, a mid 80's 20" tv was more expensive than many 75" smart tv's now.

My basic fridge and stove are from 2005 and still work fine (replaced stove elements).

I try to stay away from vehicles and appliances with lots of options, as it just seems like more stuff to break.

If you are willing to pay, there are high quality items available. But they aren't likely to be at the local box store.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

My 2017 Samsung curved TV had a MSRP of $3800. After a handful of automatic updates that you can’t turn off it’s all but unuseable. I do not use my living room tv. My kids use it with a hard drive connected and 5,000 movies I download to. But god forbid you turn the tv on at midnight and the last person watching had the volume up to 30. It won’t respond for minutes after turning on every single time. I have pulled the plug from the wall in the middle of the night enough times because the volume was so loud I really dont use it anymore. You have to let it warm up. Then, it doesn’t go to YouTube smart hub app. It just sits there in a red and white YouTube screen for ever. So I shut it off and don’t use it. The best part? Samsung replaced my old tv that had the same problem with THIS one.

Then there was my wife’s 2016 focus. It had 4 transmissions in 86,000 miles and then we had to have it lemon buy back by Ford. The transmission is called a DCT, Ford decided it was never going to fix the DCT. Instead it exited the US market with all small gas cars that had the DCT because of the lawsuits. Ford was building a car that would most often survive just past the warranty period.

Ya, I’m over new tech. The future is dim.

I'm right there with you in hating the majority of this stuff. It's built as cheaply as possible, and made to fail as soon as possible. Then to add insult to injury, it's specifically designed so you can't fix it either yourself or at all. It doesn't matter anyway as all of it is rendered obsolete soon after purchasing. The kicker is it's all priced to the moon regardless. There's zero reason it needs to be this way besides those having nothing to do with the consumer themselves. This is coming from someone who has been doing computer repair as an occupation since 2002. Although by 2013 I had enough, and since then have only been doing it occasionally to rarely. There's too much of it now in everything, and none of it works the way it's supposed to or is reliable in any way, shape, or form.

As it pertains to vehicles, the newest one I've ever owned was a 93 Chevy C1500. I have access to brand new cars to drive but for me personally, I'm not interested in owning anything made in the last two decades or so. Luckily we're free to not be forced into buying all of it.

I am not going to sit here and talk about how silicon wafers are made today, and how they were made 15-20 years ago. Or how it’s clear that a world government supports (worships) consumerism to the bitter end in the pursuit of (?) infinite growth. The market never goes down☝️

It’s all so in your face too, if you look at it, and no one is coming. It’s up to you.

I still drive a 1997 escort haha

Sure it’s not really an escort anymore. She has a 7200 redline now and will lift a rear tire in hard turns, but there’s nothing I want more to daily drive except a 911 GT3 RS. Unfortunately I’m not that wealthy

It seems like most of the tech laden stuff is thought up with "we could/can do this!"

When there should be alot more, "yeah, but SHOULD we?"
Hope you're doin' something fun.
