Yeah that is one thing about the big 1/5 truck, when it breaks stuff it doesn't do it half way, it lets you know it meant it

Also got one of the 1/10 trucks out yesterday for a little spin in the yard. First time getting this truck out in probably a year.

Chamfered the edges of the battery slots, shaved the steering block height down a bit, polished the kingpins up and mounted the front end on the outdoor Predator Lynx build.

Set up all 4 rear links, rebuilt the Delta shocks and re-assembled the diff on the CC Predator Lynx.

Making some swaybar mounts from scrap G10.

They turned out pretty well. I might dye them black. That's a Kyosho mount for reference. It's nice to be able to make bits and pieces. Saves quite a few bucks.

About 15-20 years ago, I bought three Tamiya 3-speeds in various states of bad condition. Put the best of what I had into one, and ended up with a pretty nice truck, and sold it for close to what I had in the whole lot. After all those years, today is the day to start into the build I have always wanted to do, but just never dove into it. Difficult part now is figuring out how to go about it. Do I collect, repair, and restore all the parts, and then do a complete build? Or complete sub-assemblies as I go? I think sub-assemblies is the more efficient route, but the idea of sitting down one day with a complete kit and building it all from scratch sounds so appealing. :D

I build RCs like people would have done back in the '90s ..................................... if they had 3D printers.

Well, that was not really today, but it took a bit of time to sort the pics. There was a vintage event nearby over the week-end, and I went there the two days...

Almost nothing broken :
- a shock tower bent on the Turbo Optima
- a rollcage shaved by a 1/8 car droven by a teenager on the Spirit FF... It would have happened anyway, it was just bad luck...
- the first part broken by my daughter on her lunchbox (she came only on sunday, and that makes a count of 5-1 in terms of servo saver broken between her and my son since they started RC early 2021 :-) )
- a screw lost on the Javelin (I found it after having replaced it)
- an issue on the servo saver for the Samurai... Seems that the washer I had on it was too small. I replaced it, but it took a bit of time to get there (but it didn't took 2 hours)

And a lot of runs, and a lot of fun :-D

Few run pics :-)

I despise Tamiya kit servo savers.

If they have decent quality servos, I'd use the Tamiya high torque version. It includes some 5mm ball studs with M2 threads, so you don't have to drill out the plastic.

I have also used Kyosho 4.8mm ball cups on Tamiya ball studs to reduce slop. The "5mm" Tamiya studs actually measure ~4.7mm.
Always looking for new and interesting ways to waste money.

On those Lunchboxes, there is dumb 3kg plastic head servo... They are still surprisingly alive... And I run a few track cars without servo saver with high torque servo (only way to have a reliable direction on a a Tamiya M05 or M06, IMHO), but I think my daughter succeed to kill the servo on one as well yesterday, but I did not checked it yet...

it was, definitely... Although the lack of visibility on the tunnel exit turn was making our life difficult, and some broke a bit of material because of lack of attention of some beginners... But breaking things is part of the hobby :-)
