Interesting Radio Mod

So I picked up a vintage, hand-built drag car on Ebay a while back and just got to unpacking things. Found this wicked homebrew set up. I'm assuming it's a slot car handle out back? Thought I'd share!

Yeah slot car grip, Parma sold those as a kit for modding a stick radio but most people I’m sure just used what they had laying around from their slot days.

I started out using a Futaba stick radio (a carry-over from my RC plane days) then "moved up" to a Futaba Magnum Jr. wheel radio when I started racing buggies.
I recall being a bit disappointed because I thought I had more precise control using the stick system.

Yeah, that's how you got a pistol grip transmitter before they were invented I believe. I've never seen one on anything but the old Futaba brown box type transmitters before though.

In the UK the vast majority of people used stick up until I gave up racing in 1988. I remember a guy getting a Futaba magnum very early on, not sure of the exact year, probably when they first came out as it was the first time I'd seen them.

He let me have a go with it & I found it very difficult with the steering so I never changed & I still use a Futaba stick radio now.

Yeah, I agree. Using a stick for steering seems more natural. Kinda like riding a motorcycle; you lean to turn.
Anyway, maybe my perfect radio for RC vehicles would include a trigger for throttle and a stick for steering.

I think I've seen a video of Masami driving with his feet. Impressive, to say the least!
Nearly equally impressive is to watch Kevin Talbot drive one of his over-powered RC bashers around in a parking lot on two wheels -- and I don't mean the rear wheels.
I would consider myself an accomplished RC driver but I can't even begin to drive with my feet or on two wheels. Keeping it on four wheels is challenging enough for me.
