New project -- The "BC3"

Post by scr8p »

I started a new project that has been floating around in my head for awhile now. I finally had enough parts on hand to start messing with it.

It's going along the lines of a tc3"o", but going 2wd with a B3 front clip. Used 2 tc3 chassis to create this one. I'm hoping it'll be strong enough to handle some off road action. We will see. Now a new rear tower needs to be designed and made, as well as longer rear arms to work with B3 wheels.

I agree that this is a very cool project. What was your motivation for such an undertaking?

The tc3 chassis is completely different. I chopped off the first 2" or so to get the wheelbase correct, and had to clean off all of the molded in ribbing. Then started building from there.

This reminds me of when I started racing the longer chassis B4c I had to splice in a piece of another chassis, it held together pretty good, I used whatever tire glue I was using at that time, and it bonded pretty good.

I raced it until the actual longer chassis came out👍

This has been an on and off again project. I was trying to get it race ready last October, but while trying a little stress test on the bench 2 of the side rail joints cracked. So it put a stop to that. While working on it last night I realized I hadn't talked about it much, so here we go.

After I was done with the chassis, Joe (jwscab) took it and fabbed up a rear bulkhead and camber link mount. He also made the rear arms to get the proper B3 width.

Then I thought it may be a good idea to have some kind of slipper clutch on it since it's now an off-road car. Brad Reelfs sent me some BJ4 parts to see if we could use them, but unfortunately they would not. So Joe made a custom input shaft to use a B4 style clutch.

To help with the chassis flex issue, I installed a couple stand offs down the center, and whipped up a crude carbboard chassis brace template and I'm gonna send the chassis off to Jeff to make one.

So that's where it's at for now. Hopefully it will hit the track sometime this year.
