RC12LW with RC10L wheels? or is it actually an RC10L?

Post by GTOJOE »

Hi All,

My mate has this chassis and we need new wheels and tyres. After looking at pics etc I thought it was an RC12LW with bigger RC10L wheels. But not having anything physical to compare it to it could actually be an RC10. I have taken a bunch of pics. Can someone please educate me on what it is and where to buy wheels and tyres for it. The chassis is about 236mm long. Wheelbase is about 200mm.

After reading a bunch on here and googling I found these -

http://www.rc4less.com/index.php?cPath=33&osCsid=086627dc8156b777536df1ba3133f2cf

Will they fit? Alternatively does anyone make an adapter to 12mm hex? then we can just fit cheapo touring car tyres on it from any local hobby shop.

Cheers,

Joe

What they did is put a 1/10 rear axle in a 1/12 car (you are correct, it's a 12LW). The only car that I recall ever using a 1/10 bolt pattern was the Parma Panther, and the chances of finding those wheels and tires are unlikely. You'd be best off swapping it back to original or see if a modern 3 bolt setup will fit. Should fit without much issue. Front won't fight you, sort out the back then just buy matching front. All the fronts you find will use either your bearings or an unflanged version of the bearings you have, either way it's easy

wowser...that is quite the assortment of tires on that thing. As Jeff above said about going back to original rear axle or modernizing it to a 3 bolt setup you were in the correct area for tires/wheels for that car. I've used these just to get some wheels/tires on a car to make it a roller.

Good luck.

Agree with Jeff. Definitely a 12LW. You may only need the hubs. Kinda looks to me that they are using the 12LW axle with 10l hubs. That big front wheel is just wrong. Same bearing sizes though for 12L et al. and 10L if memory serves.

I agree it looks a bit odd with the big wheels but we don't have any good flat surfaces nearby to drive it so it will just be bashing around in car parks where the big wheels are needed. I'm tempted to drill out a stock 12mm hex wheel and a plastic hex to fit the bearings and just put them on the front. Then at least it will be easy to find replacements. If those rc4less wheels are correct then I'll order a set of those as well.

If you want to keep those big wheels on it for the skateparks those wheels and tires you posted up from rc4less will work as it sits now. You won't have to worry about scraping the bottom up on it much either
