Worlds before IFMAR
I know that there were some world championship races before IFMAR started to organize them at least in electric off-road, maybe in electric on-road side too. Before winning IFMAR 1985 modified worlds Gil Losi Jr was at least 3-times world champion (second and third come from stock and modified off-road classes driving Kyosho Scorpion, source: http://www.redrc.net/2007/03/gil-losi-jr-joins-kyosho-america/).
Do any members know anything about these worlds championship races: who organized them, where they were, who won and other results, pictures , anything?

Well, his user name says it all: WC1982. Send Kent a PM if he doesn't see this anytime soon. He would have a few answers for you.

Re: Worlds before IFMAR
There weren't any for on-road prior to the IFMAR Worlds in 1982.
For Off-road there were SCORE Worlds that I think we're organized by Lou Peralta. They weren't as international as the IFMAR events, more like a socal regional race. Era was portably 1983 - 84.

Re: Worlds before IFMAR
Quick question, is that the Lou Peralta of the Powell/Peralta famed team?
If so, I had no idea he had anything to do with the hobby.

Re: Worlds before IFMAR
Do you mean Powell Peralta skateboards? That was George Powell, Stacy Peralta. He's a film director now, made Dogtown and Z Boys and Riding Giants among others. If that's not the guy your thinking of, never mind. Still recommend the movies though, some of the best documentaries on skating and surfing I've ever seen.

Re: Worlds before IFMAR
Lou Peralta was part of the early skateboard industry, as was Gil Losi Sr. I don't know many details, but a quick google search showed he was the owner of a skate facility in SoCal. He was the publisher of an early rc newspaper/magazine called R/C Racing News.
