Yokomo Dog Fighters @ the 1989 WORLDS in Australia ?

While it seemed every camera was trained on Masami's car back at that event I wonder if there are any still images floating around that showed some of the other YZ-10/870C Dogfighters at that event. I've seen the video and can easily see plenty of Yoke's at that event but have never seen any photos of the other drivers cars.
In particular I'd like to see pics of the Yokomo Factory drivers cars.

Found one more. Prabably from some Japanese drivers, since there are two front shocks.

That was a surprise to see an 870c with a monoshock front conversion. Anybody remember if that was a common 870c mod? I'm not talking 834b as I have several just thought that the monoshock was not a very good front shock arrangement and that's why people even converted some of the 834b's to 2 front shocks. :o

If my memory serves me most of the top US yokomo guys ran that monoshock setup at the 89 worlds and it looked to work very well masami just outdrove everyone that week simple as that, At the time Jay said that i would be produced and sold under the Jammin name but it never appeared that i know of, probably didnt work too well on the grippy tracks they have back in the US as thats how i remember monoshocks working when it grips up they tend to tie themselves in knots. That Aussie worlds track was apparently very slippery which is why the TF330 and TR31 tires the yokomo AE guys had was such a big advantage compared to all others.

I have understood that monoshock is little like opposite to stabilizer so it increases traction where used and it is almost similar but not so good as Dunn brothers rocker? that they used sometimes in Pro Radiants and Lazers. That 1989 worlds track seemed to be quite slippery and that did give maybe a little more steering.

The mono shock was also used by drivers on the Lazer ZX as it was said to offer more steering response.

Far from an expert racer, I have had the opportunity to drive on the St Ives track previous to its complete rebuild. The surface was quite slippery and I think I would have prefered more rear end grip over steering anyway (thats just me though).

Still looking for some more pics of those Team Yokomo cars from this meeting.

I bought a works 93 that had a front mono hub setup. it also had the mod shown in the picture above, on the rear hub carriers it had GRP extensions bolted on. Definitely a tricked out car! Wish I had taken pictures before stripping it!

Hello all, I'm new to this site - as per my handle - my first car was an optima mid se.... but I always wanted a super dogfighter. The first rc car magazine I bought was a local Australian publication called Dirt and Track (I believe) My buddies all had a few cars under their belts at this time. I was yet to get one but studied every page of their old magazines for hours. That was until I bought my first Dirt and Track... and their it was, the report on the 89 Worlds at St. Ives. They dedicated quite a few pages along with the cover as I recall and in COLOUR!!.... This was big news to me, to think that people could travel the world and get paid to race RC cars:) I've had quite a few career changes so far but have operated a hobby shop since 2007 in Melbourne but have now moved to Canberra and may open a store here or Brisbane before the end of the year. That first magazine article on the worlds really had an impact on me. I hadnt seen as much fanfare since BMX. There was some great shots of the Concours lineup which Masami won I believe. All 4wd and 2wd entrants lined up amongst the gum trees before the race. It looked cool. It was easy to pick out Masami on the stand as he was about the only one to drive stick. I purchased and raced my Mid not long after and I do recall not many had much luck with the Mono shock setup. I vaguely recall quite a few people even converting to a front mono on most brands. Even saw a rear conversion. It was pretty much a fad (too bumpy in Australia) and everyone went back to twin front shocks - Usually Kyosho golds.

I remember reading a review of a Doggie in a brit mag and was in awe of it's simplicity and efficiency. It looked and was so easy to keep clean:) My copies of those mags are long gone now but maybe somewhere someone has a copy.. I believe the magazine ceased operating in about 1994.
My Mid was stolen in about 91 and I bought my buddies Mid and converted it to a Custom LWB before finally selling it on frebay to a guy in the US about 4 years ago. Should of kept it to race vintage...Actually my car also eventually ran with a factory prototype Novak ESC that was used by a sponsored racer and sold off/given to a talented racer from my club who then on sold it to my buddy. Oh well, I'm hopeful to get a Doggie for myself soon to race in vintage. Cheers.

Lots of friendly, very knowledgeable folks here.

Interesting that you are in my home town at the moment! You racing at all?

I have many fond memories of racing at St Ives (in fact I am still a very active member of the club). I also have great memories of seeing the legends race at the worlds. Especially Masaki letting me look at Masami's dogfighter....such a sweet car.

Yeah in canberra, just moved up from Melbourne. Racing on road tc at kambah and epic at the moment. Just acquired a yz10 that's a bit sad. Missing complete right front suspension, body, wing, wheels/tyres and top plate. A member has already offered me a top plate but I'll be kitting it out with fibrelyte as I'm now their Australian dealer. Im awaiting delivery of a sweet 90ce from a rctech member which I may just fit a graphite cf chassis plate to as the gold tub is pretty bashed.

I'm checking on prices with a specialist titanium/alloy machinist regarding replicating c braces and knuckles. Obviously trouble is that unless 100 were made the price would prob be at least $35 each maybe even double that. But if there were more made then price would drop significantly. Lots of work in the modelling and setup... First I need a knuckle, c brace , arm and universal
