Mugen bulldog assembly help

Post by 69velle »

I'm currently reviving my dad's bulldog but do not have instructions. I'm not r/c lingo savvy so bear with me. My issue is with the gear assembly that is directly driven by the electric motor. The assembly has threaded nuts on both sides that are used to tighten the assembly against ball bearings. How tight should this assembly be? The design seems to be that if the joystick is quickly moved from forward to reverse the gear will slip against the bearings so the gears won't strip. So if the assembly is too tight it won't slip, but if its too loose the gear will spin on the shaft and the car won't move. What is the right amount of drag to have? Thanks, Mike

Hi mate,

Usually in a 4wd - depending on the motor, 1 to 2 feet is enough slip - probably a bit to much. Again it depends on the motor.

If you are using the standard 540 motor (silver can), then a brief " squawk" sound from the transmission slipping is enough. This is how I set up my Bulldog runner, just a little slip from the line, as it is only a mild, standard, silver can motor.

Cheers

Darryn
