Re: Help with J-CAR tranny
If it's going in a RC10, Raborn and I think Custom Scale Components made universals.
I think you can use regular buggy dogbones or universals with the JCAR tranny if it has the right outdrives.

Re: Help with J-CAR tranny
LTO Dave, do you have any pics. I got mine used years ago. Its been hacked for wieghtloss and was set to run oval (no diff balls or spring). The guy I got it from said it required mid-motor mount. I dont see how, also, ( I followed some posts ) am I to understand that the jcar was made for the rc10 in both belt and gear drive?

The only pic I have ever seen of the RC10 tranny is the one featured in this magazine article on the bottom right:
I bought an RC10 JCAR tranny a few months ago from ebay, but I don't have any pics of it yet. It didn't include any drive cups, so I haven't put it on a chassis.
I believe it can be mounted mid-motor or rear-motor on a chassis drilled for the 6-gear tranny, but I'm not 100% sure.
The JCAR was direct drive, but could also use the HyperDrive belts and pulleys to make it belt-driven. I have a few extra HyperDrive spurs if you want one. Here are scans of the JCAR ad showing the Ultima DDS tranny with the HyperDrive system:

Re: Help with J-CAR tranny
Yes
thats it, thanks again LTO, I owe ya one. I've been trying to get any info for a long time! Mine is mocked-up on an old scrap tub the way I received it, locked with a 64P spur. It mounts at the 6 gear trans. holes. The standard green aluminum screws were to long. The left side motormount has been hacked/grinded down, so I have right side motor mounting only. Both sides have been drilled with holes. My outdrives is where Im having trouble too. I will work on getting some pics posted (learning experience for me), maybe someone can ID a compatable part. Try to explain my outdrives as telescopics, maybe. A universal coupled to the outdrive shafts with grub screws and the opposites have a receptacle ( I didnt measure ) about 4.5mm-5mm square. Needs new balls and spring, and rings would be nice also, but Im not going to do all that until I Know I can get it running. If I get stuck on this project, I still have more.
Thanks LTO, for taking the time. You have been a great help.
