shock re-build kits

does anyone know where to get them for the old shocks? i'm sure if i looked around hard enough, i'd find some. but, i just thought i'd ask first.

Aren't they on TowerHobbies? They have rebuilt kits. Aren't they the same?

Dude, just buy the o-rings. Not like the snap rings or washers really go bad... unless you're missing 'em completely. Long live top-loading shocks!

Sad to say, my LHS would always restock on all old RC10 parts when he sold 'em, but now he's run out of tons of stuff. He built a 100% *from parts in stock* RC10T just a year ago... and a *pink* powdercoat buggy with all white parts before that.

Glad AE supports the little guy...

ya, i'm build new shock bodies, so i have none of the parts. i actually have some snap rings, but the large plastic washer that goes under it is my main problem.

Lemme look in my stuff, I *might* have a couple of bottom-load kits. No promises...

I'm kinda done with 6-gear cars...

I know it is not 100% original AE, but you can use traxxas rebuild kits.
I bought a set of rebuildable shock carts for losi shocks from an aftermarket company, and could not figure out how to stuff the carts, as they came with no internals.
After a few hours a lghtbulb went off and I pulled out the original rc10 manual. I also happened to be cleaning out some spares and came across some old traxxas shocks which were bottom loaders.
I used both an AE current rebuild kit #6440 and a traxxas#2362
I used the snap ring and large washer from the traxxas kit with one thin, one thick spacer and 2 red o-rings from the AE kits.
They fit my cartridges perfectly. I do not have any bottom load AE shock bodies to test them out on, so I can't confirm, but for the price it is worth a shot.

Not sure if you were being sarcastic, but I have been somewhat impressed/amazed how long AE has supported the old kits. Even today you can buy parts that are, at the newest 13 years old, and at the oldest 23 years old. You will probably not find many companies in any segment supporting products this long. John Deere being one notable exception. They have stuff from way, WAY back "in stock".

Volkswagen used to be like that...

Of course, you're right. Associated supported the RC10 for a lot longer than they had to, but wouldn't it be nice if they maintained a line of "Heritage" parts, like bottom load shock kits, to help keep the runners running?

I'm not talking re-issuing complete car kits, just things like hardware kits (like the suspension hardware bags). A set of hingepins, screws, e-clips, things like that... They could even capitalize on it by marketing their past.
Retro is in...

Associated seems proud of their original products (at least they have a product timeline on their website), yet with a growing group of people saving their heritage, they haven't seen to support preservation as well as they could. Then again, TT could just end the whole thing and we'd all say "Too bad... glad I stocked up before it ended."
