anybody knows anything on Mugen 1/8 gas cars?

Post by Mr. ED »

I came across this, and with the low price it stands at, I kinda would like to use it in an electric conversion.
Can aybody identify which Mugen buggy I'm looking at and are parts still easy to get?
Edit: and wheels that fit!

Looks like it could be the first Mugen Seiki 1/8 The Super Athlete, from the body and shape of the wing, all the later ones don't have that air vent.

Thanks for the identification.

By 'air vent' you mean the little steps in the rear window, right?

It seems these buggies are from around 95. Probably not so easy to get parts still then :?

It's a Mugen Sport with an Athlete wing and wheels. Very cool, good luck finding wheels and a fuel tank.

This is a great reference site for old nitro stuff from Europe and Japan.

Vintage 1/8th offroad collecting... scary.

Mr. Ed, you are very much better off getting a Mugen mbx4/r/rr, they are dirt cheap, and most of the wearing parts are still available.

I have a mugen MBX4 http://www.tamiyaclub.com/showroom_model.asp?cid=61372&id=34 It's a great buggy and drives really nice.

As for an electric setup, unless you can get a motor that puts out over 2HP, it's not going to be that great. I would stick with the gas motor and get a starter box.

well if current wheels don't fit, I 'm gonna do the smart thing and leave it where it is even the price is crazy low.

There are a couple used 1/8 gas buggies in the 2nd hand corner of the LHS I'll take a closer look at next time.
A 1/10 would be even better, but that might be hard to find cheap.

The main reason I'm looking at gas cars is for the stronger build and for some at least, cooler design.
