$20 ebay beater + homemade 4wd kit

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

So finally I got a $20 BIN ebay beater. Just so long as I don't get screwed in the postage I should be ok. 8)

Here it is;

I know I am quite clearly mad as it is missing so many parts, but I have a tranny and some wrecked spares at home to fit out this car and then I can drive it off my house with no worries. :D

Cheers

I almost bid on that. But, it was missing the tranny. Excellent price for the metal parts.

Not sure if I mentioned this to you before Doc. (bad memory)but I have, from the NIB 10T where those shocks came from the black tub, noze plate, front bumper,front a arms, front bulk head, front steering components and servo saver, front shock tower, noze tubes, front spindles with axles, front body nounts, rear bulk head rear a arms and rear hub carriers with axles.

Its already assembles and flawless, never used, new condition. All black.
Send me a PM :D - No charge on the shipping, they over quoted me :shock: on those shocks (postage) and I owe you a couple of $ any way.

Well the car finally turned up....

The seller promised a body as well and that wasn't there so now an ebay style rangle is ensuing, great....

The car has after a lot of soaking, scrubbing and elbow grease cleaned up ok...

I just need to wait for all the paint to finally strip and I can get to building it back up.

I am after two nose brace tubes and a battery cup (of any condition/colour) if anyone wants to help me out 8)

Later

Update with pictures

Post by Dr. Robotnik »

Well there was bit of a mixup at the post office when this arrived and Michael (warpspeedbatteries on ebay) whom I bought this off threw in a Viper body, to smooth it all out! 8)

Image

nose brace tubes, transmission braces and a bumper (which I am not sure about) to make up for it, top bloke!

Thanks a lot also to Tulsa (Scot) for the rear motor mount and body mounts aswell!

I completely stripped the car because it was covered in paint and glue and dirt. After soaking and cleaning I have added, new hinge pins, MIP transmission, Hydra Drive kit, dogbones, battery cup, servo saver, transmission brace, body posts, Futaba SP148 servo and mounts, Proline Champion rear tires, Kyosho Gold shocks, sealed bearings, hardware and heavy duty rod ends and tie rods. Most of which were just lying around from other trades for other parts.

So here it is (so far),

Image

I just quickly assembled it to because I had to bend the noseplate and chassis a lot to get them to fit together properly and I wanted to see if it'd go together.

There is still a lot of work to do I'd like to;

-re-dye the rear bulkhead and front arms black
-sort out the crazy camber angles
-strip, re-trim and re-paint the body

Then with;
-wing wire
-front lower shock pivot pins
-a battery cup
-a motor
-ESC

it'll be pretty much finished!

BTW what RC10 was the Viper body originally from? Does anyone have any pictures of box art?

Cheers

He's a good guy. I've bought a bunch of stuff from him (as I'm sure we all have here. lol). I think sunroof paint jobs are the most underrated ones going. Makes the car look more like a real buggy IMO.

Thanks Erich, I really like the sun roof paint job too. I just need to work out a fool proof way of stripping the paint and then I can re-do the paint job a little more symmetrically!

:lol:

I like the skater stickers on that Viper body. Are those Kyosho shocks on there? :)

There's this stuff called painters buddy that testors makes. You can get it an any hobby shop that sells paint. I've cleaned bodies completely clear with it, doesn't wreck the lexan either. If I get out to the shop this week I'll take a picture of the bottle for you.

Richie, those are Kyosho Golds you're right!

Thanks Erich, I was after Citri-strip but can't find it in the UK so am trying to find Testors Metallizer (I think) which I believe maybe the product you mention too.

Any UK heads want to suggest anything?

Dr robotnik, i've just stripped two bodies beautifully using brake fluid (someone else advised me on this forum)! leave the body soaking in it for a while and then rub off with a soft cloth, the finish of the lexan on the body i've just done is absolutely fine.
