Axle carrier configuration?

Post by LooseTooth »

OK. I recently bought a gold pan buggy off the local classifieds. I do RC planes and helos, but haven't had a buggy since my Fox 20 years ago.

I read up here and elsewhere on how to convert the back wheels.

Here is the list I found that I went off of for my order to Tower Hobbies, and then links to the stuff I actually ordered.

Axle: Associated 7378

Bearings: Any 3/16x3/8 bearing, but Associated 6906

Spacer: Associated 7377

Shim: Associated 7368

Pin: Associated 6375

Rear Wheels: Associated 9491
(chose Nitro Evader wheels based on reading this forum...)

Rear Tires: Any modern rear buggy tire.

One thing I missed was the flanged vs unflanged bearings, and my LHS has those.

The manual I have found just shows the plane bearing race type axle carrier. I'm trying to get everything to go together right.

Do I need two bearings per carrier?

Where are the spacer and shims supposed to go, respectively?

you need 2 bearings per hub. the shims would usually go on the inside...... if you even need to use any of them.

So the spacer is supposed to go between the two flanged bearings? The reason I ask is that is seems like it is a little long (though I don't have the flanged bearings yet...)

The purpose of the shims is to bring the stub closer to the dog bone and get the wheel pin in the right place?

you shouldn't even need those spacers.

the shims are just to take the slop out of the axle. if they need them, add them to the inside.

12 ae bearings for $8 shipping is $9, but they combine shipping and have lots of other deals like $3 pairs of 2.2 bugy rear tires
