Is this RC10 worth the trouble?

I've been into RC since the 80's and have never owned an RC10. Always wanted one, never got one. Now I want to restore one or at least have a nice example to run around for that vintage look and feel. A friend of mine has this one up for trade. He said he used to race it dirt oval and it has some old Andy's bumpers. The buggy isn't too scratched up and nothing seems broken or cracked, besides the battery holder, just a little dirty and the diff feels gritty. The chassis is missing a few stock pieces. Not too sure about the shocks either. I've never owned one so I could use some help. Anything special about this one?

Trade for what? I would think that would clean up pretty well. You have Losi belcrank steering and Kyosho gold shocks. If you were to part those out alone, would be worth about $50-100 depending on how well they clean up.

Trade for a new Clod body and some scale truck parts. Stuff In my spares I don't need. It didn't even hit me those were Kyosho shocks.

Smoke, looks like a good starter. Somethings are missing; nose brace tubes, wing tubes, and transmission brace. Others are not original if thats what your looking for spur gear looks to be a 48pitch original was a white 38pitch gear, the steering bell cranks were originally white plastic, but the ones on it are an up-grade just need to add some bearings. The front suspension parts that are attached to the shocks at each end are also an up-grade by McKallister. I think the shocks are Kyosho, not completely sure. The McKallister Conversion parts are some what rare and maybe able to trade for the missing parts. Or just run it like it is.
Good luck with the trade.

Thanks for the info. I have an old set of Duratrax shocks that are identical to the Kyosho ones. Had them for 15 years and never had a use for them. These will look right on here. Think I'll go ahead with the trade now.

Wow that is a nice one compaired to what I have seen floating around out there. I havnt been into the old rc10s but for about 6 months or so and man I love them. Also if you need a clod body hit me up man I have one just hangin around. Chevy not 4x4x4. Not neiw but not junk either. I think that if you acually race/play with them then any is worth having and messing with. Now as a shelf queen I couldnt tell you I dont build queens.

Smoke, let me know if you want to get rid of the front lowering kit. I have a stock front tower you can have if you want to go that route.

Thanks for the offer man, That's why I was trading it away, I couldn't find a Chevy grill for it. And I don't do shelf queens either. That's why their RC and not static models.

I couldnt agree with you more when you said "That's why their RC and not static models." But if you traded that for a clod body yeah definantly worth it.

It's mine now. Ordered a new body, wing, and gold screws. Cleaned the plastics up a little, will do a more detailed cleaning later, I wanna run this soon. I had some bearings to fit the bellcrank so they went in. When I removed the tranny, I noticed the chassis has an "A" stamped on it. I remember reading something about the letter stamp but can't remember what it means.
Anybody?

Wow, that sure cleaned up nice! Here is a link to give you a bit more info on these: http://www.theshreves.com/rc_stuff/rc10history.htm

Your A tub is probably one of the originals they started making in '84.
