factory carbon fiber or black fiberglass towers?

Post by jwscab »

Hey guys, I have what appears to be a carbon fiber or black fiberglass front shock tower. I know it's not dyed, because you can see the material was molded that way(dye jobs on 'glass tend to be a little inconsistent). It matches exactly with my old greenish 'glass tower, except is has one more shock moutning hole up top, it seems slightly stiffer than the 'glass one. Was this thing factory at all? maybe an option? I haven't really seen any on this forum at all, and I have seen quite the number of permutations so far!! I'm in the process of building up a gold pan with all black parts(dyed, etc), so I'm kind of torn between a matched 'glass set of towers, and using the black front tower, and trying to find a matching rear; I definitely don't want to dye the rear one, as it seems like an original, single hole shock tower.

OK, I'll attempt to attach a crappy pic, I apologize. I did a scratch test on it, and it looks like the dust is white, so i'm thinking it's black molded fiberglass. If you brush off the dust by wetting it, it's black again, so it's been molded that way. The middle tower is the black one. I attempted to show a blue dyed one below it, but its very hard to see, i apologize.

yeah, I mentioned above that filing a tiny amount gave off white dust. Which would be 'glass. The question is that the part is definitely molded black, not dyed. I was wondering if anyone knew of anyone that sold black towers, whether is was factory or not. I haven't seen any like this before.
