Carbon fibre tub YZ-10 project

Some photos of latest project, a carbon fibre tub YZ-10 (courtesy of Sven). Going to need some help with this one; looking at the chassis I'm guessing it's been designed for a Works '93 as it has the slots for adjusting the belt tension? If so, I have NIP drivetrain parts (going to fit a fine pitch belt conversion kit as I've heard the fine pitch belt is no good for runners), suspension arms, hubs, driveshafts etc, but don't know what top deck and shock towers to fit. I've never seen Yokomo carbon fibre ones for the '93, but would like to fit C/F parts to match the chassis.

At the moment I've got as far as fitting aluminium gearbox housing front & rear, black YR4 bulkhead caps, and a very used motor mount which I'd like to replace with a better one if anyone's got something.

Hi, That chassis is beautiful!
Where did you get the aluminum bulkheads? They are much nicer than the magnesium ones.
What is the thickness of the chassis at the bottom? What at the sides?
I would consider the possibility of not installing any upper plate, since the chassis itself should be quite stiff..
Bye!

The chassis is 1.5mm thick carbon throughout. I wouldn't use it without a topdeck as I'd be worried about the chassis cracking at the back, just in front of the rear gearbox where the chassis sides drop away.

Can't tell you where I got the alloy bulkhead from as I don't know. They either came with a bulk load of Schumacher spares from a model shop that had shut down, or I got them from Japan via eBay, but can't remember now. Sure one of the Yokomo guru's here would be able to say who made them?

The alloy gearboxes were by GPM perhaps?

Corally made some as well.

Interesting.. It would be nice finding some to replace my original magnesium ones..
About the stiffening required by the chassis I think you are right..
I mean, where the chassis sides drop there is the motor plate giving some support, but I would probably apply some reinforcement anyway.
What to use? The old "L" backbone or the flat upper plate?
I think the "L" backbone is nicer to see and gives a cleaner look to the chassis.
The upper plate theoretically would be more effective in stiffening the chassis, but it's fixed to the bulkhead caps which are bare plastic and does not have intermediate fixing in between the bulkheads (unless you decide to customize..)
I think I would use the "L" backbone...
Bye!

Got my Works '93 car out of storage as a reference for the C/F tub project and had a nice surprise :) After spending a few hours cleaning it up, I don't think it's ever been run! The only poor parts are the body (cut out in the top for an ESC to poke through) and the chassis has one or two scratches on it, but not from running. More like a screw driver slipped during assembly. This is a great kit, I really like all the random turnbuckles all over the place. Make it looks like a structure such as a bridge, rather than a racing buggy  . Thanks to Mr. Lexan I'm going to fit a new shell on this. Was going to fit an undertray too but the Pavidis undertrays are different again from the '93 :(

Forgot to ask: Are the wheels standard? I thought I saw another '93 here on RC10talk with black wheels, and I can't work out if the manual has black or pink wheels. It seems to show both on different pages :?: :!:

Here is the yokomo factory version aluminum front bulkhead. Part # ZC-300AF. I would post a picture of my part, but I do not know how! Sorry

that's a sweet, mint '93! I think the standard wheels were pink, but am not 100% sure.

Absolutely beautiful, my friend!!
Post more pictures as the repro body is finished!
Do you think there are chances to find somewhere the special uniballs to install the front arms stiffeners?
I mean, those bolted to the omega shaped carbon piece..
If any of you have some of them let me know!!
Bye

I know exactly the parts you mean, and I need 2 more myself for the carbon fibre tub car. I was planning on machining some from hexagon rod if I can't find any....

I think the same parts were used on the YF-2, but that car is also too hard to f ind parts for

The Yokomo Works '93 came with Black 4 hole rims.

Did you ever finish the tub chassis build? Would love to see some more photos of this build!! :D
