My new Ultima

I was surprised to find that I had won this Ultima when I opened my e-mail a week or so ago. There were only three bids placed on it which amazed me. When I bid on it I had thoughts of using it for parts for my other Ultima. The pictures on the auction showed an extremely dirty, greasy, rather incomplete looking car, in fact, it was advertised as a parts car. It did have a beat up box though, and surprisingly the manual and all the stickers and the world champ placard. Anyway, what i got is way too nice to use as a parts car. It is actually quite clean for an old rc and the shocks, which looked sun damaged and worn in the ad are quite new looking. Best of all the body is in decent shape with only a bit of cracking around the rear body mounts. And the kicker? I got it for just over 16 dollars. It cost me more to get shipped. This looks like an easy project and will definitely get cleaned up and displayed!

That's the truth. The more I look at this car the better it looks! I think I can even save the paint job. The stickers have to go unfortunately since they were applied over blue overspray of some sort that covers the body. It doesn't show in the pics. I experimented with goo gone and some plastic polish and it's coming off quite well. Other than that, some wheels and tires and cleaning and it'll be pretty nice.

Nice!

The chassis looks like it has never been run.

Good score!

That will be an easy one to restore.

Quick update. I kind of slotted the rear body mount holes because they were cracked, and because the body was decent but had been badly brush painted yellow on the inside I decided to respray it then added a white undercoat to brighten it up. I sacrificed the decals and scrubbed a lot of overspray off the top then polished it with PlastX. I was really unhappy with the driver because he had been badly painted as well so I ended up painting him on the outside. I think he came out ok. I added a wing I had laying around from a destroyed Hornet body, now a new set of decals and I can move on to the rest of the car.

Rick, that wing is for an Optima mid. The ultima wing is not as long (front to back).
