I really should stay on task and off Ebag

Post by RedScampi »

Just picked this Optima Mid up. I spent too much but what the hell, it's Christmas and I've always wanted one of these babies. It looks OK to me but can anyone see any issues or missing stuff from the bad pictures? (I know it's got a giant hole in the roof.. :?

I think I would have found a different place to mount the ESC before I butchered the body like that. At least the cooling fins are out in the airstream.

I never uderstood why Kyosho went for such a narrow chassis leaving no space whatsoever for the bulky electronics of those days

I got this one in the mail the other day. Worn but servicable and overall a nice car, no major surprises. Which shocks are correct, front tor rear?

the front shocks are a mixture of platinum shocks with gold shock bodies.
I don't know the mid models well enough to say which: gold or platinum shocks came with this edition, sorry

Actually...i scrubbed on the front shocks a bit with an old toothbrush and some "oil eater" cleaner. They are actually all platinum. They look gold from the dirt and oil residue coating! :)

As for the giant hole in the roof, it's pretty ugly but I'm going to try to patch it and the one behind it. Might have to paint the body on the outside if I do though.

That can't be anyway Ed as the Platinum have a greater ID than the Gold ones

You're right: I was looking at the top-pictures and the gold color is just rust from the springs that stuck on the silver bodies.

The platinums actually clean up really well. Mine were like that too. Cleaned em up and they look practically new. Too bad they don't work as well as they look.... :?

Guessing from the raw aluminum chassis and aluminum shock towers, it is a Turbo Optima Mid. Gold would be correct all the way around. The SE had anodized chassis, CF towers and platinum shocks.

Oh, and neither one came equipped with a sunroof... :)

Ahhh, thanks for the info! Are the bare chassis and aluminum towers the only obvious signs that it is a turbo? I actually have a patch cut for the sunroof, we'll see how installation goes.

I agree to the title statement....I forgot I had an auction for some older Losi Parts, and ended up winning it...
