Your thoughts on the Kyosho Rocky and Turbo Rocky

hello All,

I just picked up a turbo Rocky in one of the lots that received recently. I know a lot about the car in the fact that I was raider based and an entry level 4wd.

The car is in pretty decent condition, but there are a lot of things missing. I pretty much have the drivetrain, chassis shocks and some other key components. If I decide to continue the build, I'll be looking for arms, carriers, wheels, body...so it can quickly become an expensive build.

Do you think these cars are worth the restoration?

Regards,
highwayracer

I think the Turbo Rocky is fairly rare from a US perspective as I don't think we got those. I would totally restore it if I had one. They are entry level, but more like a Frog than a Grasshopper. :)

I wouldn't call the Rocky series entry level, as they were really the mid motor cousin of the Optima, and had comparable specs.

The Turbo came with UJ driveshafts, platinum shocks etc so it had some good gear on it.

Here's mine:

Yeah - love these cars! 8)

Not sure where the car is related to the raider though?

I am pretty sure there are still some spares around - best to make a definitive list....

Yes - they are worth the effort.

Bender - yours is a cracker mate.

Cheers

Darryn

Thanks for your input guys!!

The raider and the rocky share the rear gearbox and most of the suspension components. In my opinion, there's a huge difference between the turbo rocky vs. the standard rocky.

I can still find all of the parts with the exception of the big items (wheels, tires, body). To get my turbo rocky to the condition of Bender's car will be huge expense. When I have some time, I'll get this one cleaned up and sell it in it current condition.

I also picked up a kyosho maxxum (in the same lot) that I'd rather get up and running.

Thanks again,

Regards,
Roger
