Well,I stripped my XX-4 down and pulled the clutches out.
I've seen the plastic side belt pulley's three dowels melted into the slipper backing plate,but NEVER like this!
There was molten plastic that worked it's way through the holes where the three locating dowels are and centrifugal force had spun it out,almost covering the entire surface the clutch rests on!
NASTY CARNAGE!
I didn't keep running the car when the clutch started to fade and slip bad,either.
I replaced said components and added an extra pair of belleville washers...It seems to be holding.
I made sure I drove easy for half a pack,to try and break in the new parts...Here's hoping it'll hold.
I'm tempted to spin up a one piece alloy slipper backing plate and side belt pulley on a lathe and mill the teeth out for the belt.
I'm running a 5700kv Castle Creations motor.Fast as hell.
I'm running the grey clutch pads all 'round,now.
Any more input to preventing this carnage happening again would be most appreciated!

Not to sure about the XX4, but the XXX4 used the friction pucks as the slipper medium.
One word: worthless. Shot through mine in 2 runs, and it took out my spur and belt with it. Called Losi about it, their guy suggested (from the pro drivers setups) then lock it down tight and locktite the hell out of it. Pretty much rendering it useless. Run the belt a little loose so it can slip a few teeth if really in a bind. Was never to happy about that whole design. Sold the car and got me a ZX-5 for that one reason.

Yeah,I'm having to run my clutches pretty much locked down.
Even with the 2 extra belleville washers,I'm sure it's gonna loosen up on me (better not be during a race ) and melt those pucks on the pulley...Yet again.
I love this car,but I'm getting tired of the same old problems.
Maybe it's time for a B44?

Swap an Associated slipper spring on there and be done with it.

Tried that trick-the spring was way too long.
I couldn't see any way of getting it on there,unless I cut a few coils off the spring.

If I remember correctly, the threads in the layshaft are actually a long set screw (could be wrong, it's been a long time since I had my XX-4). Replace that with a longer one and you're off to the races

I really don't want to part with my XX-4,I love driving it too much,especially parring with it over such a piddley problem.

No worries. Not sure if I mentioned this but be sure to use the older style, short slipper spring. The B4 spring would be a bugger to fit for sure.
