Ebay key words

Post by shodog »

One thing that has bugged me is that I can hardly ever find my RC-10 auctions when i do a search on ebay. What keywords do you guys usually search for when loking for RC-10 parts?

One thing I noticed about your auctions is that they come up in different searches of mine... and eBay's search logarhythms do not overlook dashes as part of the search. Many people type out RC-10 or RC/10 or R/C10 instead of the correct RC10, and the searches don't crawl through those things.

<giving away my secrets>

I have had to go through a list of variations on that, and when I list auctions, I make sure I type it differently everywhere in the description so that no matter how anyone searches for RC10s, it comes up.

Search: RC-10*
Search: RC10* where the (*) is a wildcard so that RC10CE will come up in the search where it wouldn't have before

I also tend to use eliminators to reduce my results, too...

Search: rc10* -b3 -b4 -t3 -t4 -gt* -tc3 -tc4 -m18*

and

Search: rc-10* -b3 -b4 -t3 -t4 -gt* -tc3 -tc4 -m18*

...get 2 different results, sometimes with overlapping items, but more often than not, you get a lot that aren't in both.

I eliminate a lot of stuff I'm not interested in sifting through. Might miss a few things where eBay savvy listers will put all of those other terms in their auctions, but if it keeps me from having to look through 10 pages of Mini18 listings, I'm ok with that.

Can't give away all of my secrets, though... :D

lol, i've often wanted to start a thread like this but i was sure nobody really wanted to post thier search secrets...

i just search this as a start:

(rc10, rc-10)

alot of times tho, i'll search things like "old buggy", "old rc car", and the often overused "vintage buggy", even "i don't know" works sometimes...

i'll also search stuff like "futaba car", "reedy car", etc, thinking that if somebody who didnt know what it was would just list whatever name they saw on a component of the car.

and thats all i'll admit to when searching for rc10's...

excellent suggestions. I never knew how to limit the search by using the - symbol.

Hey guys,

One thing to check.........I absolutely use the *exclude these words* function, under the advaned searches, and it works phenomenally well. However, there were times, where I just bypassed the advanced searches auctions, and used for instance: RC10 -b3 b4 t3 t4 Of course I did this to eliminate the newer RC10 versions, but what happened, is for some reason, it did not work the same as actually going through the advanced searches options and doing it. Just check it out a little bit before you completely rely on it. Trust me.
