Help me remember.... 2 cars

Well, I have been reminiscing about my younger rc car days as I have been rejoining the rc ranks.... and I have two questions I can't seem to find an answer to...

My first "real" rc car (non Nikko or toys-r-us special), the first car I bought with my own money and loved the heck out of, was a Tamiya.... Stingray? It might not be a stingray, but something similar. It was grey and looked vaguely like a grasshopper or hornet.... I scoured tamiyaclub.com and didn't see it. Anybody know what I had?

And the show that started it all for me.... Punky Brewster. I remember an episode where she won a rc car kit, her Pops and her friend laughed at her, thinking she couldn't even get it built, much less drive it, I mean, come on, she's a girl, right? Well, girl power from the 80's proved them wrong. After that episode I wanted a good rc car. Anybody know what car it was she had?

Ahhh, the good old days!

Thanks for your help.

Mike

Was it 2wd or 4wd?? If you're saying grey buggy in the Hornet era then I'm going to guess Sonic Fighter.

Welcome aboard. I was old enough to not appreciate Punky Brewster at the time (I can now that she's all grown up ;) ), but so many people seem to reference that show as a big r/c influence.

Hmmmm,
I know mine wasn't 4wd though.... but it looked just like the Manta Ray, and I remember that being the name..... time for some more digging.

I specifically remember not liking the rear suspension. It was not independent like here:

So there must be more than one model?

Also, mine came pretty much RTR, I think I had to put the body on and place the stickers... ran on a bunch of AA's batts as well.
