- MIP trailing arms '10 with 4wd chain conversion -

Post by Asso_man! »

Here's another project I wanted to share with you, bought the car from a member here a long time ago and took it out for a quick cleaning and inspection yesterday. The car came with a few goodies, heaps of tires and wheels (including a pair of early Edinger box art front tires 8) ) and above all some early 4wd MIP parts. It's in overall good shape, the rear shock tower has seen some abuse, but still salvageable, even the CC chassis is in good shape. In the far future, I would like to find all the missing parts from the MIP kit (dogbones, gears and outdrives for the front box, chain, chain tensioner and the rear tranny adaptor) and make this car a 4wd with trailing arms. I'm already hunting those parts down, but they are sooooo scarce, honestly I think I will need the luck Anthony (aconsola) got a few months ago to complete the project, but with some patience, a man can always catch the fish he was looking for

And here is a lot I won a few days ago, I was only bidding for the MIP tranny with the motor (brand is Selectrics, never heard of it before, can anyone add some knowledge here?) and the seller sent me for free a Novak T-4 and a 6-gear tranny with Dirt Burners 48dp gears, sadly it is missing the top right gear, any help would be greatly appreciated!

A small update on this special project that is far from being finished. I recently gathered some of the hardest parts to find, that is a complete MIP 4wd chain kit, still missing a few bits and bobs though, a set of black MIP shocks, a new rear shock tower for the trailing arms kit, and a brand spanking new NIP Checkpoint motor, one of my greatest find lately!

The front CVD's are not original and don't work properly with the c-hubs/knuckles assembly, though they seem to have the same lenght as the originals. The problem is that the CVD's coupling part is too long and interferes with the c-hubs when steering right or left. Since I'm not the only one here who is missing those to complete the kit ( at Paul), we may have those custom made by a shop... sigh...

I also plan to design a custom graphite chassis that has the side pods built-in to fit the trailing arm aluminium mounts without having to use the transverse bar. For the moment I'm thinking about a double-deck design but haven't got around to think about it thoroughly. I am also considering to have all the epoxy/GRP parts reproduced in graphite and use white plastic parts all around. Any ideas are welcome at this point as I can't decide where to start. Here are a few teasers :P

That rough chassis already has character, mixing well-chosen options of different brands, kind of like an original hot-mod. I can't help but liking the rat-style rod's and custom cars. A fine example:

I might be in to take the left-overs from you: those front arms, the chassis and I suppose you're not going to hold on to the kyosho shocks? Nothing urgent (on the contrary) so just give me a sign before you toss them or sell on the bay.
