MIP 1987 Mike Christenson Race Car Replica
Sorry this is rushed but I am off for my tea This is something I've been trying to do for ages and have only now had time to part build. I still need lots of bits but I thought it'd take up less space built.
This is a replica of the race car Mike Christenson ran at the October 1987 Off Road World Championships.
Now for my build sorry for the poor pics. Aiyee my flash she is weak! Here's what the parts looked like when bought years ago...
At the same time I begged scr8p to fix my RPS chassis I asked if he could fix this first generation Composite Craft chassis. These are the holes to be filled.
This is the amazing job he did. Thanks a lot mate.
Here are all the bits to be built up...
Here's the bare chassis ready to go.
...and gratuitously again but with a new rear end kit ready to be mounted.
an MIP transmission with new parts some in bags some not...
mounted to the chassis, the rear end takes shape.
3 row Schumacher CRP tire copies and CRP dyable Hotshot wheels. In retrospect it looks like I should have got original HS wheels but these were $2 shipped! I'll replace them as funds become available.
Built up...
Rear wheels, 4 row spike and Pro-line dyable wheels
Now here I got distracted and forgot to take any pics...here's the rear end all but completed.
and again.
Now really jump forward and have the whole front end on...
The same from the side.
Plenty left to do. I need a rear sway bar kit and a front kydex bumper, so if anyone has those please let me know. Also I need to drill the rear bulkhead and shock tower and notch the front shock tower. Finally a chain needs to go on and the electronics need to be installed.
Enjoy!
Cheers
Ed
P.S. Sorry the pics are letting this down.

Hey Ed, it's tiny in the picture, but it looks like you're not using the original hotshot hubs. Is that right?
What c-carrier knuckle and axle combination did you use actually?

Oooooh. Um, pm sent?templeofspeed wrote:Ed, I've got the front bumper...
Hi mate, this is a replica of Team MIP's best driver Mike Christenson's race car from the 1987 World's, it uses all MIP parts in the 4wd system, so it has MIP hubs, c-carrier knuckles and axles.Mr. ED wrote:Hey Ed, it's tiny in the picture, but it looks like you're not using the original hotshot hubs. I have wanted to try some HotShot parts for some time, as a replacement especially now there is the re-release. Because they would be metric and red, surely perfect for a runner.

No I need to find some wheel hubs. I believe Hot Trick made a set (and I should have bought them a month ago on ebay but couldn't spare £30 plus shipping). I have just spaced the wheels out with nylon hex adaptors, all for show.Mr. ED wrote:so the mip hubs fit on the hotshot holes? make us a pic with the wheel off please

If you are using the kyosho u-j's with the conical surface : I have the hotshot adapters for these. Posted them earlier and think they were identified as HT, but it 's a long while ago.
Would need to find the thread again.
If on the other hand you got something with a crosspin: I got the plastic hotshot ones too
