MIP RC10 4WD PROJECT

Have a few little things to replace and wrap up (like powdercoating the engine mount). I've had the powdercoated chassis sitting around for ages and finally decided to put it to good use. Haven't decided on the wheels yet. Don't like the plastic MIP wheels so I have to rummage around for a set of aluminum wheels and a body. This is what I've built so far though.

btw,
polished wheels and those blue buggy tires would be interesting.
i think the mip wheels dyed blue with white tires would be cool too. or white wheels with blue tires...
i dont even know if they make those colored tires for 10th scale.

hmm..................blue tires. that would be different. i don't know how hard it would be to find some of those blue losi spec tires, but i'm sure they're out there.

Good ideas guys. I'll look into the Losi blue dirt spec tires. My bigger issue there woud be finding aluminum rims that fit them. I have yellow and red troll tires and I was thinking maybe tossing one of those colors on Tamiya rims and machining some wheel adapters. Another thing I was looking at was fitting Tamiya TLT-1 aluminum rims and tires on it. I'm going to see what aluminum rims I have stored and see where that leads me. I have another set of MRP tires on aluminum Advantage sprint wheels but I already have the sprint rims and tires on the other 4WD Legends so I didn't want to do it again here (what a problem to have, eh?). Hmmm... maybe another set of Technacrafts! It'd be easy to machine the slot for the front pins. But then, I don't want to hack up the technacrafts.... I dunno... I'll figure this out in the next few days. If all our problems were like this, eh?! :)

On my conversion they are shorter in length. I found I had to use the shorter orignal 6010 front arms. In addition the hub carriers use a metric 5X11 bearing.

almost every mip component uses metric bearings, I have always wondered why because almost none of the US rc companies use the metric system, the same for allen wrench and screws...

I agree with shodog, on the pre-legend kits (like the one used on shodog's excellent RC10 graphite) the front axle system is shorter than the rear necessitating the use of the short front arms.

However, I believe (I don't have one in front of me) that the Legend kit which is the one in this thread uses the same axle widths front and rear and allows the use of the wide front ends (wide in comparision to the original RC10).

Hope that helps

Cheers

Ed

awesome project

I almost forgot to heap some more praise on another fantastic build by Alex the thread starter.

As usual you are turning out an amazing piece of kit, fantastic work and thanks for sharing.

Cheers

Alex, could you tell me what spindles and bearing carries are on your car? I've seen the same setup on another conversion (pic attached) but wasn't sure what it was. If anyone knows of a set of spindles and bearing carries from some other car that could be used for an MIP 4wd kit, please let me know and thanks in advance.
