new member, but old RC'er saying hi!!
Hey guys... I'm new to this sight but I've been messin' with RC cars for over 20 years. I packed up my cars about 15 years ago and recently opened the bins and started messing with my stuff. Wow, do I have a lot of cars...
-RC10
-Tamiya Bruiser
-Tamiya Porche 959
-Tamiya Hornet
-Tamiya Lunchbox
-Tamiya Monster Beetle
-Marui Hunter (first car)
-Mugen Bulldog
I've also owned probably a dozen other cars/trucks when I was a kid because I used to fix them up and sell them, etc. I had quite the enterprise... lol.
All of my radios seem to be junk from storage except for the 4-channel in the Bruiser so I was able to take that for a spin last weekend. It is amazing to see how that truck has become a collector's item for a lot of people.
I used to race my RC10 back in the day so it was pretty tricked out... not sure how good it is by today's standards. I'll have to get some pix and post them sometime.
Anyway, wanted to say hi to everyone!!

badhoopty - $25 bucks huh? lol... nice try!! I had a lot of fun with that truck. When I was a kid, I used to tie a rope to the rear bumper and tie the other end to my skateboard and I'd tow myself around the neighborhood. That RS750 has a lot of power.
civilguy - thanks! I was wondering if there were any other new englanders around. Where abouts are you? My wife and I just sold a home in Bow, NH about 2 months ago.

I'm in Goffstown. There's a track in Pembroke (106 Racepark) that I started racing last year after a 20 year break. I run modified stadium truck and 1/8 scale nitro buggy. I occasionally force them to run a vintage class too!!

showdog, actually I have 2 RC10s already (just bought a 2nd off of eBay). I have been buying stuff lately under the guise of "but it is for the boys to play with honey" and so far, my wife is buying it
civilguy - I know where Goffstown is... I might have to check out that track sometime. I used to live in Fitchburg, MA and there is a track there as well which isn't far from me. I have driven by it but never stopped. I might have to check that out as well.
So much has changed in this hobby since I was into it so many years ago. My poor old 1700maH SCE batteries are junk compared to the NiMH and LiPo batteries of today!

Fitchburg is RC Excitement-- good place to run, friendly staff and helpful racers. I've been there a couple times. They're year-round, indoor off- and on-road, as well as outdoor off-road in the summer.
106 is a good place to run too- Friday night racing thru the summer and Saturday racing May/June and Sept/Oct.
Don't feel bad-- I got out when 1200 packs were the bomb....
I still have a few that the kids ran in their Grasshoppers (when they had the 380s in them).

looks like I might have to try RC excitment out in Fitchburg. I am in desperate need of some batteries too... what is everyone's fancy on batteries? Are the LiPO better than the NiMH? The technology has changed so much in the last 20 years!

Re: new member, but old RC'er saying hi!!
The jury is still out, I am sure, for a while. I personally made the switch to Lipo this year (Orion 3200's & 3600's) and love them. My NiMh batteries havent seen the light of day for a while now. The IB4200 Worlds Edition packs (NiMh) pushed me over the Lipo edge, I spent over 200 on some good race packs that lasted a couple charges before losing a cell here, cell reversal there....and I was very anal about battery care, tray them, cool them, charge them, cool them, run them, cool them, drain them, cool them, partial recharge them, cool them, box them till next race...rhoonah wrote: Are the LiPO better than the NiMH? My Lipos....charge them, run them, charge them, run them, charge them, put them away, take them out a month later, run them, charge them, run them, charge them, put them in a box till next time....LOVE IT!

Re: new member, but old RC'er saying hi!!
Thanks for the info... don't LiPO packs require a special charger and cell balancer? I was under the impression that LiPO required a great deal of care as well but it sounds like that isn't the case.

Re: new member, but old RC'er saying hi!!
special charger - yes
balancer - yes
special care? nope, just dont overcharge (KABOOM) them...they dont like over discharging either, but a $25 lipo monitor will fix that. Over discharging them harms their MaH rating (my understanding).
I have 4 packs, no balancer (but I check them about every 10 charges, when they get out of balance, I will buy a balancer and use it
) and the newest version of my standard charger (Orion Advantage) charges Lipo.
