This project started out as collaborative experiment with scr8p. The idea was to test various combinations of parts and figure out which ones would allow the use of those Delrin Klien arms he discovered at Dynotech, together with B4 CVDs, wheels, tires and other parts. Had some luck with it, so I figured I’d go ahead and build it the rest of the way. I thought it might be interesting to see just how much of a car could be built using the good old aluminum tub chassis and readily available parts, and how close it could get it to a modern buggy’s footprint and (dare I say) handling. Anyway, it was a fun project and I thought it worth sharing.

Out of all the parts used in this build, only the following can no longer be purchased new:
• Chassis, 10T nose piece and motor/trans mount
• Rear bulkhead
• Rear suspension mounts
• MIP steering kit

The final track and wheelbase are nearly identical to the B4. The RPM rear hubs were used to lift the axles up a bit (10T hubs work also). They were drilled out about 1/16” on the inside to push the axles out and to give it a little more clearance for the bones in the out drives. Shocks are 1.02” in the front and 1.18” rear.

Fibre-Lyte parts were added for show, but there are stock AE parts that’ll work in their place. This one turned out a little too pretty (imho ) to run, so a runner version is in the works…

awesome! That's exactly what I would like my runner to look like in the near future. FYI, I think the MIP steering kit is still available from Tower. But it has been a long time since I checked it for the last time... keep us posted!

Thanks, Guys. Actually, Asso_man, that MIP kit is no more. However, I've put together a new ball bearing kit using a combination of available AE parts to use on my runner. I'll post that up - with a parts list - shortly...

I have bean collecting part to create something like this and I was waiting for the arms and B4 CVDs, I bet this is very exiting to race… looking forward to see the runner.

get them quick, last time I posted a deal from one of those sites the part sold out in a few weeks despite having almost 100 in stock at the time of my post.

edit, I checked to see the stock levels a while after the initial post, the price has gone up to 16, and 12, with only 18 left in stock at hobbyetc. they must somehow adjust prices based on demand? I've never seen that happen.

The RPM rear hubs were used to lift the axles up a bit

i was going to use the old losi jrx h-arm hub carriers #2038 to raise the axle's. it's the dirt oval standard and have lots of adjustability and have recently been re-released by custom works. also they provide a anti-telescopic effect on the dogbones to reduce wear when using the bottom hinge pin hole. they are also very similar to the old rpm rc-10t anti-telescopic hub carriers i have.

Awesome car. I definitely want to duplicate a similar setup with the old and new together on a runner.

Sweet car, beats chopping a nice chassis and having to find worlds arm mounts, aslong as you don't mind the look of the B4 offset wheels!

I don't blame them upping the price, someone probably already ordered a bunch of them at the original price and you'll see them on Ebay next week for $20+

I hear ya. I picked these up when I ordered my tub chassis from them. I figured since I was already exercising poor fiscal judgment, I might as well add a few more flat pieces.

It's great to know there are other options out there for parts outside of my all-Associated (or made for AE) theme. I know scr8p mentioned some Losi hubs that he was going to try, but I'm not sure they were the same ones. Do you happen to know the CW part number for those parts?

ya, those are the ones i'm gonna use on mine. i don't know the CW part number though. i'd have to look for it.

Which rear arms did you use? Also, what is the p/n on the RPM rear hubs?
