Tamiya TA03R

Post by Dangeruss »

In late 1997 Tamiya released the third variant of their latest generation 1/10 4wd electric touring car platform, the TA03R. A rear motor, standard wheelbase version of the TA03 it was constructed from ABS plastic and received its own unique tub that placed the side loading transversely mounted battery much further forward than any other TA03 chassis. Shared though, with every other TA03, was the lower H-arm under fixed camber link four-wheel independent suspension, plastic bodied oil-filled coilver CVA shocks with clip in spring spacers, in short front and standard rear lengths, low profile molded plastic shock towers and twin bellcrank steering with plastic center link, spherical end tie rods and direct mounted servo saver. Being a rear motor design the 540 sized powerplant would find its place just forward of the rear axles and bookened by a pair of bevel gear differentials front and rear spun by a belt driven four-wheel drive system with easy to service bottom loading diffs. Metal dogbones passed through plastic hubs before reaching a set of 12mm hex drives at each corner. Single piece plastic wheels, rubber tires, and a clear lexan body would vary based on which one of the five different body styles was purchased, though each included a Mabuchi RS-540 motor and bushings in the unassembled kit:
