What are the best ball stud & rod end/ball cups for 1/10?

Post by username333 »

Hello all. What do you find to be the best currently available ball studs and cups/ends for 1/10 cars that are most consistent quality, and minimal slop, and good range of motion?

I'm working on a Jrx2 and stock cups pop off easy, just like I remember. I tried Dragon Punch ball studs with RPM heavy duty rod ends, but some are good, some are tight, some are loose (not sure if its RPM or Dragon Punch variation). Tried TRL "22" 4.8mm ball studs and matching 4.9mm HD ball cup set, but those are sloppier than the 5-link on the back of the Jrx2. Maybe sloppy is not fair, but the .1mm designed gap seems like a lot of play.

I'm thinking of trying xray or kyosho next, maybe from their current touring cars. I could try the TRL 5.8mm ball/cups they are using on the new 22X, maybe they will be tighter fit than their 4.8mm, maybe. I'm hesitant to try the associated 5.5mm ball/cups, I think I'd seen some comments about lots of play similar to TRL?

Any advise or experience who has the best fit & quality ball stud/ends?

I have a couple cars that use Tamiya 5mm ball studs and Kyosho 4.8mm cups. The Tamiya studs are a little undersized, so it makes for a pretty good fit.

The Losi XXX series HD (Grey) and the HD white were the best in the business IMHO. The plastic ones from the other kits (black) were very very good

I've been eyeing up the ball cups and balls used on the rc10 4wd kit. They seem to be a more modern design and may be the hot ticket. Need to see some real world use but they look promising so long as associated still sells them.

I just checked two of my cars with RPM cups, both fit snug.

One has older HPI 4.3mm studs, the other has Custom Works studs.

I also replaced the fixed links on my Torment with turnbuckles and RPM cups, with the original ECX studs. They fit good as well.
