Frankenshorty RC10 buggies - #2: The Stubbie Tub

This started as a trial to see what I could do with an unloved gold pan tub. It started with some snipping and bending.
It finished up with brazing, filling, sanding/filing/grinding, and some painting. Then assembly with standard A stamp parts...
It's 3.75" shorter with an even 7" wheelbase. Same as Frankenshorty #1.
I added a 3 screw Novak 1 ESC, Novak NER-2X Rx, and a CAM modified.
The batter cups are sized to hold an Ovonic 2S 50C 1000mah battery. I still need to change the battery's connector so I can go do some romping around.

It turned out pretty nice so I thought it should have a storage box too. I took photos of one of my nicer boxes and resized them for the graphics.

This is awesome! Was going to say, I know you could squeeze a mini or micro battery in there! So how does it run? Gotta be a wheelie monster!

I haven't gotten to run this one yet but Frankenshorty #1 is quite a wheelie monster, so I expect this will be too.

I need to either make a battery connector adapter or put a Tamiya plug on it.

Where's our wheelie videos? Also I have to say the shorty box really completes this whole project!

Oh yeah, I still need to put a new connector on that little battery. Then it's wheelie time!

Getting closer to wheelie time! Busted out my OG waffle street tires and got the connector swapped. That is some really light gage wire on the battery lead.

Yes, looking forward to seeing the stubbie tub in action! This is way more appealing to me than the mini and micro stuff since it shares parts with the 1/10 version

what did you braze it with? ive brazed alot of steel for crawlers but brazing aluminum sounds interesting.

Needed a rear skid plate too. I learned that lesson with Fs#1.
This is what I use for aluminum brazing.

Looks great!
What paint are you using if you don't mind me asking? I played around in the past with coming up with a close mixture, but was never really successful with it. Of course there are 100 variations in these pans, but a foundation to start with would be nice.

My videographer assistant was not a willing participant, but still supported a little bit of run time recording. The little lipo also didn't love this application. It sucked down really fast and was warm.

I used what I've seen juicedcoupe and others recommend, Tamiya PS-19 Camel Yellow first coat with a PS-12 Silver second coat. I got 2 paint jobs out of the little cans, although one paint job was 3.75" shorter than the other
