Here's an SRT in a bag.

All parts are new although the screws will slow me down as I haven't ordered any.




Jeff's kits/conversions are always well put together.

Tonight's progress....

Out of the three of these kits that I built this one is by far my favorite chassis kit. The fiberglass is fairly translucent and has a nice texture to it.


Unfortunately I didn't have the header card for the battery box as I ripped it apart when I pulled it out to dye the nylon black


Steering assembled per SRT instructions, it looks good but I might possibly have to play with the height adjustment slightly for bump steer, we'll see when it's closer to being finished.


Front end pretty much done

I countersunk the top plate like the real truck. I found some 4mm black Phillips head screws but will swap them out with Allen key screws, I forgot to pick some up after work


I also countersunk the shock tower like the original. This kit included a 3d printed rear bulkhead spacer which is a huge improvement over the original spacers.


Here it is installed.

The shiny CVD bones are a touch shorter then the bones in the kit so I'll have to check that they are long enough before using them.

Even though they aren't a true SRT they are still a pretty fun truck to build and run. The original appeal of these kits for me was the fact that you could easily build one today and that parts are readily available, cheap, and the truck still has that vintage feel.

Doing the same thing with a nitro rusty build soon! I wonder if that factory works steering would work? Should work because the nitro rustler uses srt belcranks right?

Same as the last three trucks, I cut the ears off the gearbox.


Here's a little racers tip for gearboxes, sand the bottom flat so that when you bolt it down it sits flat/square without binding or warping the case. Most molded gearboxes like these are terrible.


This pro diff is pretty impressive, for a traxxas diff it's pretty good. I went with the alloy idler this time and another home made titanium idler shaft.

Since I originally planned to build this as a "period" racer I bought an A&L/Factory Works Power Clutch to go along with the theme.

I've never had or seen one before so here it is for those interested like myself.


Looks pretty good assembled. It definitely has that engineered feeling to it.

And here the transmission is mounted in the truck. The shiny CVD bones fit so I'm pretty happy about that. I left the heatsink things on as it seems like something that would have been an option back in the day, kinda Litesink-ish. I also decided on a different gear cover, it's a T3 cover which I'm pretty sure uses the same mounting pattern as the B4/T4 cover but has a bit more room inside.

Thanks, just make sure you ask Jeff which version you need. I'm pretty sure these ones are on the Rustler geometry and not the SRT geometry, the SRT uses a wider tiebar from memory.

All done. I forgot to order a body so I'll have to order one. All in all this truck came out pretty good.




And the bag is empty, nothing left....
