Team Losi Street Weapon IWC

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1998 Team Losi released an updated version of their Street Weapon 1/10th 4wd touring car called the Street Weapon IWC. The IWC (which stands for IFMAR World Cup) derived its name and components from the car David Spashett used to secure Team Losi their world championship in the inaugural IFMAR International Scale Touring Car race at Temple Park Leisure Centre in South Shields, Newcastle upon Tyne. Based on the standard Street Weapon with its sealed, triple belt 4wd, lower a-arm/turnbuckle camber link independent suspension and composite mini tub with front mounted motor the IWC would include a laundry list of hop-ups as an all-in-one option for racers. Upgrades started with its graphite infused molded composite Low-CG mini tub chassis with relief cuts in the base plate to accommodate lower mounting of the motor and batteries. Two front bulkheads in 0 and 10 degrees (included with the kit) attached the graphite front a-arms which, combined with the reversible 3 degree hub carriers, offered 3, 7, or 13 degrees of caster. Graphite rear a-arms with revised 2.5 degree hubs were also fitted and both ends sported titanium turnbuckle camber links. Graphite shock towers could also be found front and rear supporting oil-filled coilover shocks with hard anodized, threaded shock bodies, titanium nitride shafts and heavier springs at all four corners. Steering was improved with bearing equipped bellcranks and titanium turnbuckles while the 4wd system was upgraded with low friction blue drive belts, new bearings in the differentials, and aluminum replacing steel for the lay shaft, rear dog bones, thrust washers and wheel nuts, all to lower the IWC’s rotating mass. Wide Track wheels with Losi LST S-01 blue compound slicks put the power to the ground while the unassembled kit which was sold less radio and electronics was topped off with an Andy’s RC Products sourced Dodge Status clear lexan body:
