I'm trying to find foam tires for what is said to be a standard Associated wheel size. The place I'm getting the standard wheel size from, is according to the Mini-Mags ad:
A10-Fs fit RC10 and use standard size ASSOC. tires
The wheel dimensions that I have:
Caliper measurement = Converted to Fraction
1.7" = 1 11/16" - Front & Rear diameter
0.75" = 3/4" - Front width
1.35" = 1 11/32" - Rear width
Were the foam tires different sizes for the 1/10 and 1/12 on road Associated cars? Is there anywhere I can find the specs for the on-road foam tires?

Yellow - Duro 25-30; Softest compound (rears only). This is a new foam that we have just released (12/1/2004). Super soft for low bite stock racing. Available but still in testing.
Black - Duro 40-45 Awesome right side tire on carpet tracks. Works well for left front on banked tracks. Good right rear tire on very high bite tracks in stock.
Green - Duro 30-35; Medium-soft Traditional US green.
Firm Blue - Duro 55-65; Hard compound recommended on high traction banked carpet tracks. Also offered as a spec tire for front tires.
Gold - Duro 40-45; Medium-firm for high bite carpet tracks. Silver and gold are BSR exclusive compounds from Japan (not the old TRC silver and gold). A gold at 40 and a gray at 40, gold has less traction than a gray and a little more wear.
Silver - Duro 45-50; Firm compound for high bite carpet tracks
White - Duro 30-35; Medium/soft compound, recommended for mostly carpet tracks. Can be used on asphalt but wears alot on asphalt.
Gray - Duro 35-40; Medium compound recommended for mostly carpet tracks but also used on asphalt.
Gray/Silver - Dual compound-silver on outside of gray. Medium-firm for carpet tracks. This is a good stock right front tire.
Pink - Duro 30-35; Soft compound recommended for carpet and aspalt racing. Low wear/longer lasting characteristics.
Double Pink - Duro 35-40; Medium compound recommended for carpet and aspalt racing. This is equivilant to Jaco pink. Low wear/longer lasting characteristics.
Purple - Duro 38-43; BSR developed their own mix of select sheets and seam positioning for our purple. BSR's single purple is different than others. If you want a purple similar to Jaco use Our Double purple. Medium/firm compound recommended for carpet and aspalt racing. Low wear/ longer lasting characteristics.
Purple/Orange - Dual compound tire for carpet tracks. Helps prevent traction roll.
Double Purple - Duro 45-50; Firm compound recommended on high traction asphalt and carpet tracks. Equivilant to Jaco purple. Low wear/longer lasting characteristics.
Double Purple/Orange - Dual compound tire for high traction carpet tracks. Helps prevent traction roll.

Wonder how well vintage NOS foam donuts will hold up, putting them to use after all of these years. Looking for asphalt donuts.
I have (2) old Bolink RC10 foam sets that measure 1.7" in diameter. Just the widths and the tire OD's are different.

Went with these for the front.
For the Rear, TRC for RC10, Green Dot.
Probably try to find an old tire cutter, or make one, to trim these to the right widths, and ODs.
Will use 3M weather strip glue to mount these.

Scale is difficult to tell in pictures, got a front set of 1:12 tires accidentally. For $10 it was another lesson learned. May have somewhere to put those at some point.
The TRC rear tires are nearly perfect for both front and rears, with 1.7" ID, and 1.5" wide.
Going to try again for front tires, 1.7" ID is the most important in this case.

Tire (or donut) cutters are called tire truers. There are plenty of them out there used, but you have to search for the deals. Then you may need different hubs to fit different wheels, but if you are just doing a few random wheels here and there, you can usually rig up some sort of washers / bearings / bushings / etc to get a wheel to hold for long enough.
You can also use the truer to narrow plastic wheels. It is just a super mini lathe.

Thanks for that! That's what I was thinking too, I don't see myself using a $400 truer often enough, or even the $200 one, was thinking buy the arbor for 1/10 wheels, from CRC I think it was, and then use a bench grinder, or another motor to adapt to it. Have a flux welder if I need to get cheap and weird with this.
This car will be strictly asphalt, so I wanted to be sure to get the right color dots for the right mfg. donuts, and intended use. The TRC green dots are perfect, seem really close to what's on the Bolink rims currently.

Following up on this thread. Both donut sets I bought, shown above, didn't fit the 1.7" wheels I ordered.
Turns out Pro-Line Jaco 2202 green donuts were the perfect fit and composition for the rear wheels. Ordered the Pink Jaco's for the front, for asphalt only.
The Jaco donuts are rough cut, and must be trued.
Got the Contact RC Tyre Truer V3 today, with the 1/10 arbor; the 3M weatherstrip adhesive arrived too.
Comes with the carbide cutting blade.
Motor spins in either direction.
Setup for the first test on some old RC10 Bolink tires.
12V 10A power supply is required, I already had this 12V 40A PSU for charging multiple 3S LiPo packs in parallel.
Here's the first cut with this truer.
Trued wheel on the left.
The Contact RC Tyre Truer V3, is really nice and solid, it has rubber feet, and no vibration or wobble. Got it from Nitro Hobbies for $189 free 2-day shipping no tax, the 1/10 arbor was $25, to the front door both were $214.95.
A foam tire file will be here tomorrow, also made by Contact RC (Schumacher Racing), that will round the edges of the tires, and smooth them out overall.

Got the Pro-Line Jaco 2225 Purple donuts for the front wheels, and finally got the CRC foam file.
The Pro-Line card, bag, and sticker are all yellowed from time, but the donuts look like the day they were made.
Rear: 2202
Jaco Green 25 High traction. Carpet/Asphalt.
Both of these donut sets perfectly fit the 1.7" wheels, the rears are perfect width, but the fronts will need to be narrowed.
Going to use 3M Weatherstrip adhesive to glue these donuts to the rims, and then true them, and then round the edges with the CRC file.
It's 109° out back at 1:30pm here, going to need to wait until it's cooler out there, too big of a mess to do this indoors.

The weather here may be cool enough today to get out and true the wheels. Need to figure out a way to keep the foam from spreading everywhere, and making a huge mess back there.
Since I'm new at truing/file finishing, I'm going to get all of my practice in on the old Bolink wheels first.
Then glue and true these wheels when ready.
The Dead Pool vette these trued donuts will be going on.
Can't go any further on the project without the finished wheels.

Going to try this to contain the cut foam.
Hit a brick wall here - the AE front axle/bushing size is too wide for the arbor I bought. The arbor I bought is a 1/10 12mm hex:
Even with a bushing in the front wheel the arbor won't center.
This worked on the rear wheels because the threaded diameter is very close.
Won't work on the front wheels.
Contact RC sells another 1/10 arbor, the WGT10, it's for 1/10 metric WGT/GT10 wheels that have standard hub sizes for the front and rear. This WGT10 arbor has steps built in to it, to mount and center both diameter hubs - in metric, not imperial.
All I can find out about the WGT10 arbor, is that it has an 8mm axle.
Going to try the WGT10 arbor, and hopefully drill the front AE bushing to the metric diameter of the first step in the WGT10 arbor.

Got the 1/10 WGT10 arbor for the Contact RC Tyre Truer.
The tolerances are so tight, that I didn't believe the Dhawk rims would fit this WGT arbor. It fits!
The lathe that these wheels were turned on were metric, so while the opening is for imperial bearing size, I was able to get the WGT arbor to fit without doing a single thing (except clean, oil, and cram it on).
But just cramming this random size wheel, on a specifically made WGT arbor, doesn't mean it won't be an un-centered and wobbly mess.
Stable and balanced, looks like it was made for this purpose.
This project just grew some new legs. Time to make TDP vette happen!

this thread is so helpful. Thanks for taking the time to share it all. I know it takes forever to document this stuff all while doing it. I'm at the point w/ my old RC10L's that I need to make my own tires to fit onto a few sets of See's aluminum wheels I've been sitting on for literally decades at this point. I went through the same trials where I've bought the wrong donuts several times and also tried to remove BSR foams from the wheels to reuse (fail), all over the coarse of the last 10 years on and off! I still havne't got a set of foams mounted on the See's wheels. I have some foams that I think will work and I'm at a point I think I'm going to buy that Contact V3 truer and give it another go. I'll be sure to document it here in another thread... so thanks for the details and the inspiration.
