thrift store scorpion!

I love thrift stores. All of my vintage "toy grade" cars have come from them. I picked up this awesome Nikko Scorpion today for only 10 bucks! It has the original battery, but unfortunately no controller. And the truck itself has no life, even with a brand new battery. I have no desire to fix the original electronics, so it will get a spare 1060 and r6fg I have laying around.

After giving the body a good cleaning, it looks a bit better.

Update: Its done! Of course I ditched the ugly font bumper, but it really doesnt look any different otherwise. It runs phenomenally though! I can see why these were such a hit back in the 90s. It honestly handles better than my Hornets, and is certainly better than a grasshopper. Its bouncy and silly, but completely composed even over rough terrain. Handles the lawn with impressive ease.

I wanted to retain the original on/off switch so I soldered it to the new 1060 esc. Then I quickly heat shrinked the wires so that nobody including myself ever has to lay eyes on the absolute abomination that I call a solder joint.

One other cool thing I found was this anti-drug sticker on the rear bumper. Its the only "modification" from before I started messing with it. "Drugs are a dead end"

That's scrubbed up nice :!:
Probably has better ride because of the tires acting as part of the suspension , I found with my hopper mods that choosing really soft rear tires off the Kyosho Scorpion really helped the ride .
