This started as a project for a friend, but in the process of drawing it up and getting parts together I decided that I needed one too. The suspension arms, bellcranks, shock towers, battery cups, chassis, top plate, etc. were all designed by studying photos of the original 1991 buggies, RC10, and RC10B2 parts. That seemed like the fun way to do this. No photos of any other modern replicas were used for part design.

I finally have a donor in the works for the to get me enough parts for a 99% buggy, so time to kick off this project. This is my starting point, before the lucky donor corpse arrives.

I planned to use a B2/B3/T3 front nose plate with OEM suspension mount spun around, but couldn't make an adapter bracket work with the top plate I advance ordered. So it got a new mount. My original plan called for the front shock tower to be anchored with the inner hinge pins. I stayed with that because I already had ordered the front shock tower too. Plus I like the setup. It's a little different.

The front and rear suspension mounted up normally, although I did have to notch the nose plate a little extra for the front arms. An RPM B4 mini bumper with some minor customization completed the front.

I made a mistake on my chassis plate. I should have used the inner 2 rear bulkhead mount holes. Oops. I guess I was a bit premature starting this build. Will have to get a new chassis cut. Too hard to undrill the holes in this one. 🤣

After casting off some crap, it's almost a respectable pile of junk.

I remember putting 1/2" wood screws thru some tires (rcca pit tips) bitd. Thought I was gonna dominate the ice. Turned out......nope! I cannot imagine what last dude had planned? Mine clearing ops? Grass seeding prep?

Looking great! I am digging the extreme contrast between the arms and chassis :D

The white bits are making the transmission case stand out probably more than you wanted. Any plans for it? Dye it black maybe?

No plans right now to dye it. I could print in black but I'm ok with the gearbox looking different. Maybe it gets dyed black, although it will get mostly hidden by motor, motor plate, and transmission brace.

Actually a CF chassis is fairly forgiving when it comes to "undrilling" holes. Epoxy and perhaps some CF snips or even a real thin weave layaer on the top and / or bottom if you want to go all in.

Even plain epoxy with a drop of black acryllic paint will get you there.

Just don't use the 5 minute stuff. 1 - 24h epoxy will get the job done really nicely.

Very cool project BTW.

Some more front end work done. After I put in the steering servo I'll add the top plate. That funky bell crank angle is intentional. That's how this buggy apparently was run BITD.

I decided to go with a really small servo because this seemed like the appropriate buggy. Plus I never use the RC10 small servo mount holes, so why not?

Top plate then installed.

Some Schumacher tires, NOS RC10B2 rear wheels, JConcepts front wheels, and it's a roller. I just need to determine how to paint up the Boki Viper body.

With all the work gone into everything and the 3d printed parts... the dark red nose piece... just makes the car sexy.
